Here are answers to some commonly asked questions:

What are karma points?

Glad you asked. On this Board you get something called "karma points" every time you post. These karma points control the Member Title displayed below your member name. They also will get you access to perks on the Message Board.

Is there any advantage to having a higher number of karma points?

As you get higher numbers of karma points, there are rewards you can earn. Karma points may be awarded by the webmistress or a moderator,as well as earned by posting. For instance, there may be contests on the forum for which you will can earn karma points.

50 pts - upload your own custom avatar
100 pts - add a signature to your posts
500 pts - receive custom animated avatars
1000 pts - receive exclusive digital autographed picture
5000 pts - receive exclusive jplewismusic t-shirt

How do I get a custom avatar?
When you hit 50 karma points and become a Pensalesman, you can email me at webmistress@jplewismusic.com and I will turn on the settings that allow you to download a custom avatar

How do I add the custom avatar?

Procedure for customizing avatars:

1. Go to My Space > Profile
2. Click "View/Edit Complete Profile" (top right on screen)
3. Under Public Profile Fields > Avatar/Picture URL click "Edit".
4. In the popup window, click "Custom Avatar". (the link is above the regular set of avatar pictures)
5. Click "Browse" to find the picture on your computer.
6. Click "Update Avatar".

It may take a little while for the avatar to show up

How do I get a signature?

When you hit 100 points and become a Tiny Dancer, you can email me at webmistress@jplewismusic.com and I will turn on the settings that allow you to add a signature.

What is private messaging?

Private messaging is a feature that allows you to send and receive private messages from other members of the forum. If someone contacts you, that message may be accessed by going to the JPLM Community page, and clicking on "My Space. Then, in the left hand column you will see a Private Messaging option. If you click on it, you will see a list of your private messages. You may respond to them as well. This is a quick and easy way to contact other board members, whose e-mails you may not know, or discuss an issue with a moderator. If you wish to send a private message to someone, go to the Community page, and click on the Member Directory. Find the name of the person you wish to contact, and click on their name. A page with their public profile will appear, and at the bottom of the page you will see an option to "Send Private Message to...." You must be signed in to the forum to perform this function.

I am having trouble posting and/or accessing the chat room.

It may be realted to the browser you are using. This community software is designed to work with the following browsers:

Internet Explorer 5.5+
Netscape 7+
Mozilla
Safari
Opera 7+

If you are not using one of those browser versions, you may experience severe usability problems. Please upgrade your browser to a newer version for optimal performance.

I noticed the rules state you can only have one user name per computer, but two people in my family want to belong to the forum. What should we do?

I would like to change my user name. What should I do?

JPLm requests you only have one user name associated with your IP Adress. If you would like to have the name on your active account changed, or if you have a legitimate reason to have two user names on one computer, please contact: webmistress@jplewismusic.com

There is a thread I want to post in, and there is no reply option at the bottom.

The thread is most likely archived, or it may be closed. If it is closed, the last message will be a post from an officer. If it is archived, and you would like to post, send a private message to a moderator and ask that the thread be opened. Threads that are out of date or those that have not had posts in a long time may be archived. If they are archived, they will be in The Library forum which is the last one on the forum.

Can someone post a list with the Karma levels and the associated rewards that come with them? I think it would be fun to know what we have to look forward to.

Also, my I have enough posts for a signature. I added one to my profile, but not it's not showing up. Is there something else I need to do?

Thanks.

If you go into your "my space" area (where you accessed your profile) you should see "karma" on the left hand side. If you click there you will be able to see your own karma points as well as the list of the different levels. As far as I know only the "pensalesmen" and "tiny dancer" levels have rewards right now.
Also, underneath the "karma" button there is "preferences". If you click on that you will see "posting options". There you can select to have your signature added to the end of your posts. If you don't want to have it on all of your posts you can instead opt to add it on each individual post (you will see an option when you go to post something if you wish to do it individually). Hope that helps! Smiler
