Usually, people are content to sit back, forget about the artist for a while, and let the music emerge at its own irregular pace. After all, art has always been a translation of inspiration, and inspiration cares not for production schedules. Some of Jon's fans, however, are remarkably impatient for his new music.
Concern for Jon's career can't be the only motive for wanting the music out sooner. There has to be some internal motivation. What creates such a demand for the music in you?
I think most of us have at least a mild addiction, too. I mean, he went away for awhile. That's like taking away my cherry coke for awhile. It's not gonna work.

For me it's the suckiness of the music out there today. I can honestly say I only like about 4 or 5 songs that are out now and won't buy the albums either. I am probably an exception because I don't care for POP music and get sick of it fast. I'm hoping for real rock music back on the radio and wishing for a better role model for by boys. I really don't know what Jon's music will be like but I'm pretty confident I'll like it.
"The radio saved my life tonight The old song that that DJ played made me feel alright."
I don't really care when the disc comes out, personally. I think Jon should take his time and make a good product. But I'm a patient person and I'm not sure I'd buy his disc without being able to hear it first, so I guess I'm not a good person to ask. LOL!
Well, I think it is smart for Jon to get music out sooner rather than later. Idol alums have a shelf-life. Waiting too long can spell... f-a-i-l-u-r-e.
However, if it really is all about the music and putting out the best album EVAH!-- then by all means, take 35 years (it worked for Brian Wilson with "Smile", after all...).
What I mean to say is that Jon is not Brian Wilson. I hope he gets *something* out soon! The window of opportunity is nearly shut. What? Like the general public is going to remember who he is for much longer. Aside from AI diehards (who I suspect are not his target audience). And diehard fans (us). At least as far as recognition for being on American Idol is concerned.
Yeah, yeah... Jon wants to separate himself from the AI stronghld, the AI name. He wants to be a "serious artist". But use AI. He should use it like it used him.
Why am I impatient?
Because I sat with a friend and listened to some of his stuff... in the early stages. And it was really promising. Really good. I was impressed. And I was happy to have been able to be a part of his "rising star". I spent some time, just a few hours, with him and I thought-- "Now here's a cool guy. Here's a talented, passionate, snarky guy. I'm rooting for him."
I want to see him succeed.
I don't want to see that window of opportunity slam shut.
I am eager for the music, but not exactly impatient. When I think about how quickly Jon's CD and the CDs of other finalists from this year are coming, I am actually impressed with them as a group compared to the finalists from previous years. This group seems to be particularly hard working and prepared to make a splash as soon as possible. Jon has been talking about his CD since the end of the show, so the anticipation has been building. From his own comments about how we all will love the CD and comments from several other people who have heard Jon's songs, ranging from his brother to most recently the people at the Idaho Falls show, it is clear that the music will be great. So naturally people are eager to hear more from an artist they especially enjoy and who shows such promise. Yet great art does take time, and Jon was busy all summer and into the fall with a grueling tour. Then almost immediately, he put on a show in Idaho. Then he would have needed to worry about the whole business end of things, plus dealing with all the people who now demand his attention, plus getting the website going since people were eager for that too. I think things are rolling along at a good pace, even though if I had a magic wand, we could have a new CD about every month and concerts in our areas every, oh, 3 months. That would probably suffice to make me totally content! But there is fantasy world, and then there is reality. So I will wait patiently and try to be helpful in any way I can because I know the wait will be worth it, and I know that if I were I Jon's shoes, I would hope that people would be patient with me, would trust me, would speak kindly about me both in public and in private, and would be tolerant and understanding.
**************************** California Christmas this year.

I suppose you're not one of the "some of Jon's fans" who are impatient. But peeps, usually I'd ditto everyting you said, yet I'm a bit antsy. I can't for the life of me figure out why! But I'm getting the album; even if it sucks, it'll at least be a keepsake. LOL

I think he should pop this album out SOONER rather than LATER.
And people keep sayin', thus the thread about it! (hehe) But I think I've heard all the "good career move" reasons. Now I'm really curious about what makes Jon's fans so curious about the album. It's really cool that your reason is you heard the early stuff, and felt the promise there. Not many people have had that opportunity, even after the Idaho Falls show.
Yeah, it was pretty cool to have that opp. He has a much prettier voice than we EVER heard on American Idol. So, it makes me curious and a little impatient.

Huh? You've lost me. Usually? How is being a fan of someone who has never had a CD out any form of the usual? It's a bizarre situation ... being a fan of someone without a CD. No clue how you can compare that with anything usual. I would think we would all be anxious to hear the boy's music.

I never got the opportunity to see this guy really "grow" and show the extent of his talent because he was voted off too early.
So... Jon Peter Lewis: Musical cliffhanger? That kind of partially explains it the curiousity, I think.

I want to hear his music because I want to know if he is as good as I thought he could be.
I agree with the "good career move" comments, cause I am a one time fan that is very tired of waiting for this guy to do something, and just about have lost all interest.
I don't owe Jon any loyality. I have supported him in many different ways to do my part in letting him know he had fans out there interested in him. However, I won't continue to invest my time in someone who has yet to prove himself musically, and doesn't seem that interested in doing so.
If he were to release just a little clip of his original stuff -- something besides a negative bio or journal entry -- at least that would give me a tidbit of his potential and encourage me to wait.
Word to this part. I understand totally.

ITA. This is exactly why I'm impatient.
LOL... I want people to list their selfish personal reasons for being impatient about the music, but all they can do is talk about Jon's interests! Be more selfish! Think, "me, me, me!"
LOL Iris. And here I was thinking I would be noble and altruistic for the holidays, and you cut to the chase. Yes, the only reason I am interested in Jon's music is because I want to listen to it. There. Now I feel better. Confession is good for the soul!

Well, I do want to hear his music because, like Midnight Blue, I thought Jon had the most potential. So I think his original music could be great, but my impatience is due to unselfish motives. Sorry if that's not what you wanted to hear. On the other hand, my reasons for wanting John Stevens's album are selfish. He has professionals behind him who will ensure he becomes a success. I'm not worried about him. I just want the music!

Truly, it is bizarre! That makes all this all the more mystifying to me. It's not just that people are curious. I was curious to hear that one of Sister Hazel's album because they were changing their sound so dramatically (I love Sister Hazel). I didn't know what they would sound like, but even so, I just forgot about it until the album was out. There's just something infintely more enigmatic about Jon. I don't get it.
