It didn't make me cry. But it made me think there's a lucky girl waiting at the end of that car tripSmile

Thanks for the review of Jon's song, Betts! Smile

As I read the lyrics you posted, I could almost hear Jon singing the song. Cool

Now I really can't wait to get the CD! Smile

Those are wonderful lyrics, Betts! I can't wait to hear Jon sing them! Smile

I can't help but chuckle when I think of JPL being on the same CD as Luciano Pavarotti and The Chipmunks. Now, honestly, did anyone here ever seriously think THAT would ever happen? Surprise LOL

They're all talented and charismatic, but so different in style and genre of song. Smile

All are good in their own way of course, but this would be like having Fantasia Barrino sing a duet with Barbra Streisand and The Smurfs! Surprise LOL

Still, Jon is a wonderful performer and a wonderful guy and he deserves the fame and prestige of appearing on this album. What an honour for our homeboy! Flower

Cheers, Mikey Smile

You know, sometimes it is easy to forget to mention the obvious. Those two lines are so great. A nice, cozy, homey image. There is even a little alliteration. Does anyone know if there are any other Christmas love songs? I can't think of any. There is "Blue Christmas" by Elvis, I guess, but that seems to more of a broken-hearted song. It doesn't combine the warm associations of Christmas time with the tender feelings of romance as Jon's song does. There are so many love songs written and Christmas songs written that it is a wonder that I can't think of another Christmas love song.

The voice he uses gives the impression of someone who is warm, confident, secure, happy and a bit amused. It's hard to explain precisely, but you can definitely read differing emotions in jon's songs. It's kind of like drinking wine, listening to his songs.....the bouquet is not always the same, and you have to search for the flavors.

I agree, Jon has a very natural and warm sounding voice that shows his heart and soul. He truly reflects his personality in his music and makes you want to spend Christmas and the holidays with Jon and his family. Smile

I hope I didn't come across as rude or offensive when I was surprised at Jon appearing on the same CD as Pavarotti or The Chipmunks. Jon is easily my favourite of the three, and he is certainly as equally talented, but I was just trying to point out how funny it was that such different performers with different styles can appear on the same CD. I know I worry too much. Wink

Hug to Mish! Smile

I have remembered some Christmas Love Songs, by Amy Grant from her three Christmas albums. Some of the songs are of course covers of popular standards, but many are originals penned by Amy herself: Smile

Heirlooms starts out as a love song for one's family at Christmas, and then becomes a hymn to Jesus and God, but there is an element of family love as well as faith in the song. Smile

Heirlooms

"Up in the attic
Down on my knees
Lifetimes of boxes
Timeless to me
Letters and photographs
Yellowed with years
Some bringing laughter
Some bringing tears

Time never changes
The memories, the faces
Of loved ones, who bring to me
All that I come from
And all that I live for
And all that I'm going to be
My precious family
Is more than an heirloom to me

Wiseman and shepherds
Down on their knees
Bringing their treasures
To lay at his feet
Who was this wonder
Baby yet king
Living and dying
He gave life to me

Time never changes
The memory, the moment
His love first appeared through me
Telling all that I come from
And all that I live for
And all that I'm going to be
My precious savior
Is more than an heirloom to me

My precious Jesus
Is more than an heirloom to me".

A Christmas To Remember and Till The Season Comes Round Again paint a similar scene as the song Jon sings, but Amy's songs aren't as "personal" as Jon's as they are directed to many special people, not just one. Smile

A Christmas To Remember

"Twinkling lights
A chill is in the air
And carols everywhere
Close your eyes, it's almost here
Candles and cards
And favorite movie scenes
The smell of evergreen
As special as it's always been
And I have a dream or two
Maybe they will come true

Setting our hopes on a big snow tonight
We'll wake up to a world of white
It's gonna be a Christmas to remember
Light up the fire, play some Nat King Cole
Always sentimental and don't you know that
It's gonna be a Christmas to remember

I know it's true
Time doesn't stand still
Many things can change
But we know some things never will
The memories we share
The songs we always sing
The mystery of life
The hopefulness this season brings
And I have a dream or two
Maybe they will come true

Setting our hopes on a big snow tonight
We'll wake up to a world of white
It's gonna be a Christmas to remember
Light up the fire, play some Nat King Cole
Always sentimental and don't you know that
It's gonna be a Christmas to remember".

Till The Season Comes Round Again

"Come and gather around at the table
In the spirit of family and friends
And we'll all join hands and remember this moment
Till the season comes round again

Let's all try to smile for the picture
And we'll hold it as long as we can
May it carry us through
Should we ever get lonely
Till the season comes round again

One night holy and bright
Shining with love from our hearts
By a warm fire,
Let's lift our heads higher
And be thankful we're here
Till this time next year

May the new year be blessed
With good tidings
Till the next time I see you again
If we must say goodbye
Let the spirit go with you
Till the season comes round again".

I would love for Jon to record a duet with Amy Grant someday. Smile

Cheers, Mikey Smile

Although good songs, for sure, I think they are still disqualified from my search. "It's Christmas" is a true-blue, "I love my girl and I can't wait to hold her close again" love song rather than a general ode to loved ones, family, or friends. It doesn't make those other songs less, for sure, it's just odd that as many love songs as there are played all year long, that there aren't more love songs with a Christmas theme.

About the best I've thought of so far is "I saw Mommy kissing Santa Claus"... LOL

Really...not even close!

I can't think of any true blue love songs either Mish... Although that is a fun song... but not even close Wink

You're right of course, Mish. Those were the only ones I could think of, it is hard to find love songs for Christmas, isn't it? I'm glad you liked Amy's songs though. Smile

I did find another interesting Christmas related CD though, called Mother And Child: A Christmas Celebration Of Motherhood
which features an interesting line-up of artists including Belinda Carlisle, Amy Grant, Kindred Spirit, and Olivia Newton-John. Smile

Kindred Spirit was a duo comprising of Debbi Peterson (also from The Bangles) and Siobhan Maher (also from The River City People). Smile

1. Oh Holy Night - Martina McBride
2. All Is Well Tonight - CeCe Winans
3. Through Your Eyes - Suzy Bogguss
4. Christmas Lullaby - Belinda Carlisle
5. Bless This Child - Vesta
6. When You Believe - Shanice & Crystal Wilson
7. Breath Of Heaven - Amy Grant
8. Christmas Never Felt Like This - Olivia Newton-John
9. Christmas Time - Wendy Moten
10. Christmas Son - Kindred Spirit
11. Ave Maria - Beth Nielsen Chapman

Here are the lyrics for Debbi and Siobhan's (Kindred Spirits) Christmas Son:

"A Christmas son has come into our lives
And brought to us a joy we can't describe
Isn't it a miracle how love creates a life
A Christmas son was born into the light

Every night we watch you while you sleep
And quietly we stand in disbelief
Isn't it amazing how a child can change your life
A Christmas son is born into the light

Christmas son
Hallelujah
Christmas son
Hallelujah

Can't imagine how this world would be
Without our brightest star we'd never see
The beauty that a child can bring, a reason to believe
A Christmas son was born to us tonight

A Christmas son is born into the light".

Although this song appears to be about the birth of Jesus, I also feel it can be a Christmas song from any mother to her newborn child as well. Both Debbi and Siobhan are mothers (Siobhan has a daughter named Evangeline and Debbi has a son named Brian and a daughter named Keira), so this could be the theme of their song. Smile

I do love Jon's song though and I wish his song had appeared on this album as well, but as wonderful and talented as he is, Jon wouldn't quite fit in with this project since he is neither a woman nor a mother...now wouldn't that be a surprise if Jon suddenly became "with child"... Surprise Wink

Cheers, Mikey Smile

I got this cd and I am VERY impressed with Jon's track.

Jon really seems to have great songwriting skills and I can't wait for him to release his first cd.

Hi un4gitible! Good to see you. And I am glad you enjoyed Jon's track. I agree that Jon has great song writing skills. It has been such a wonderful thing to see him reveal all his talents-guitar playing, song writing, acting, etc. I think this song will become a classic.

So guess what is on my Christmas wish list? I want to see Jon sing this song on some tv show! This song is far too good for it to remain on this CD alone. I really want to hear and see him sing it on tv. I surely hope someone somewhere is looking into that possibility. And then, and then. . . I am going to get extra greedy and ask that some kind of video clip of him singing this be put up on this site. Jon, did you speak to Santa and did he tell you that is just what we need? I have been extra good this year!
