I am so eager to hear this EP. So to keep myself occupied and distracted until that magic moment I get to push the play button and soak in the music, I decided to learn more about what goes into making an album. In Jon's recent answer to a question here on the forum, he said, "I'm sitting down with the producer this weekend to start some pre-production notes. We should have it all wrapped up and mastered in a few weeks. Then...well, there's a lot of other junk to take care of."

I wondered what all was involved in preproduction since I have insatiable curiosity, so I found this interesting article. What this article shows is that Jon and his producer are approaching this the right way. They aren't just slapping something together and rushing the EP out for sale, but are trying to craft this EP into something special.
Nevertheless, I still can't wait to hear the music. I feel like a kid in the back seat of the car. "Are we there yet? Are we there yet?" Anyone want to play the license plate game with meeeeeee????? LOL

So if you too need to be distracted, or would just like to understand the music business better, then read this
ARTICLE and find out what Jon will be doing this weekend.

Anyone else itching to hear this EP? And Jon mentioned to Kimberly Caldwell that there might even be DVD too! So hurry Jon! But do it right.

How about Eye Spy, arts? I spy with my little eye something that is shiny...

ETA:
I've just had a chance to read that article, arts. That producer has strong feelings about preproduction! It's true that you need a balance in production; you [usually] don't want it to sound as raw as a "live recording," but you don't want to smother the life out of it.

Paul McCartney released "Let It Be... Naked," because he thought the original "Let It Be" album was overproduced. Personally, I feel some of the songs on the album are a little too bare (my brain fills in some of the "missing" parts!), but I agree with Paul's sentiment. Some of the songs are better "stripped down." Many JPL fans seem to have simliar feelings about the "Turn to Grey" recording... all they want is Jon and his guitar! Wink

Funny you should mention "Let it Be" Iris. I just heard it on the radio on the way in to work this morning. I was thinking I hadn't heard this Beatles song in quite some time and it was nice to hear it. I also heard "Maybe I'm Amazed" this morning. Love that song!

Yeah, life is full of strange coincidences.

Or maybe I should say... "coincidences."

Yeah you don't want it overproduced and you don't want it underproduced.. But I think Jon knows what he wants and well we all know that he can be very stubborn when it comes to his music (I mean look at how many of the people from Season 3 have already just slapped together an album and sent it out and some of them are really good and some are not that great at all... )

I happen to really like Let It Be....Naked I think I like it more than the original release, but that is what happens when your band breaks up and there is still an album in the production proccess...

ETA:
I'd also like to say that I really love the new Capitol Albums Collections of the Beatles. You get EVERY Capitol release and on every cd you get the songs in both Sterio and Mono and I must say they sound great both ways, but you really get an appreciation for their work with them...
