Here's a sweet heartwarming story about actress Anne Hathaway, star of The Princess Diaries movies, and many more. Although some of her movies recently haven't really been my cup of tea (Havoc) for example), it's nice to know she really is as sweet and good-hearted as she appeared in The Princess Diaries 1&2. Smile

****Hathaway Honours Gay Brother At Human Rights Gala
19 March 2008 (WENN)
Actress Anne Hathaway braved a family death and attended a Gay Rights Gala in Los Angeles this last weekend. The Devil Wears Prada star was handed the Human Rights Campaign's Ally For Equality Award during its annual Los Angeles celebration at the Hyatt Century Plaza hotel. Despite the family tragedy, Hathaway insisted she would not have avoided the gala at any cost. The actress revealed her brother Mike is gay and recalled the moment he first came out to the family. Hathaway said, "We hugged him, said we loved him and that was that."****

In a day and age where the top news stories seem to be about Britney Spears latest whacked-out shenanigans, whoever's lips look the most botoxed this year, what so-and-so was wearing on the Red Carpet, or the vile hate-filled rants of the Westboro Baptist Church...it's nice to see celebrities with a social conscience. Smile

Here's a quote from Anne: Smile

****"I disagree with a couple of the stances of the Catholic Church. My older brother is gay and it's important for me to be able to love him completely and freely and it's important for me to spread beliefs in the world that are not going to limit people in their love.I can't support a religion that doesn't support my brother."****

I'm not trying to be contentious, and I'm as spiritual as the next person, but I have to agree with Anne on this one - too many good people are facing bigotry, prejudice, and discrimination in this world and it has GOT to stop. Sad

Anne's not alone in her efforts, other celebrities are doing their part to raise the awareness of the importance of equal rights. That's why I like helping Val Kilmer with his humanitarian charities by promoting him and other celebrities who are trying to make the world a better place. Smile

Cheers, Mikey Smile
