I was just wondering what everyone else in different parts of the world are thinking about this little thing...
Personally, I don't think that he should've said those things and he definitely deserved some sort of punishment, but I don't believe he should have been fired.
This comes off as being really racist, but trust me I'm not, I just don't know how else to put it.
I believe that if Imus is fired then Isaih Washington needs to be fired for his gay comments, Rosie O'Donnell needs to be fired for her Asian comments, etc. I think that if a black person made a comment about a white group, then this would be a non-issue. People are being held to double standards here and it's not right.
PS- I think Imus will be on Sirius Radio now anyway.
I agree. Even though I think his comment was really bad and in poor taste, I think all the firing is a little harsh. He's being dropped from most every place he is broadcast. I don't know if he has apologized or not, but he should if he hasn't and perhaps given another chance.

He has apologized tons of times during the past week and today announced that he's done apologizing to people and just wants to meet with the Rutgers' Women.
Then he's doing everything he can to make up for it and should be given a chance. I'm sure we all have said things we wish we could take back. And there are a lot of people in the entertainment business that "walk the line" of what is appropriate and inappropriate all the time so a lot of them do cross the line now and then but not all have their heads roll.

What keeps coming to my mind is that old saying Sticks and stones may break my bones but names will never hurt me.
I saw lyrics for some rap music written by a black artist someone posted out there and let me tell you it was nasty! That was much more disrespectful then anything Imus said. How come it's okay for them to say those type of things about their own women, but let a white person say something and it's a federal case. It's getting really old this political correct bull where everything someone say becomes the worlds business. If someone in Iraq said something about Sadam Hussein, back when he was ruler, they could be killed. That is not the kind of country I want this one to become. I don't in any way support cruel words to other people because of their race, religon, or sexual preference but something is happening here that I feel is bad news for our country. How about focusing on getting along with each other instead of fueling racial hate. We're at war for goodness sakes, we have our soldiers dying everyday, now thats something to be upset about not who calling someone else a name. Okay, I'm done ranting.
Don't even get me started on this topic. I am so disgusted with this world and people's "you hurt my feelings" BS! Imus is just an old crotchety man...who gives a rat's a$$ what he says!! UGH! An apology, yes. A firing HELL NO!
The Rutgers woman said that Imus stole their joy from them, right. Well, as summed up so beautifully by a BLACK WOMAN, "Imus does not hold those girls' joy in his mouth. By giving what he said so much attention they are making him more important than themselves and what they have accomplished." (paraphrased) I love that woman! She was disgusted by all the hoopla over his comments...and she is a black woman!
This country is turning backwards with regard to that issue. I am so sick of it!!!!
And on a side note, the Rutgers woman's basketball team should be happy Imus brought them so much attention, I for one would have never known they won the championship had he not said what he said. But then again if the media hadn't paid so much attention to what he said I still wouldn't know they won.

Oh, I think he totally deserved to be fired. He said something really stupidly hateful on air, and it wasn't the first time. I support those companys' rights to fire him. If he wants to continue making his comments, he can go ahead... nobody's stopping him.
But I don't think he deserved to be dragged out into public and lynched. The circus around this is absurd, and I think a lot of people should be ashamed of themselves.
Gidget, would you really want to be called a ho just because it got you attention you wouldn't have gotten? Do you like it when you're walking down the street?

Haha, my sister mentioned that you said that tonight before dinner, and my family cracked up
John Mayer // Elton John // Idols 08 // Daughtry // Jonas Brothers // Rascal Flatts
Iris, no. But even if I did get called a ho while walking down the street I would not suggest that the man saying it get fired from his construction job or anything. I would simply keep walking and say to myself "what a loser". Those girls were not phyisally attacked so to fire a man for being an insensitive boob is ridiculous. ESPECIALLY after he appologized and said that he was stupid for saying it. He wanted to make amends right away and wasn't allowed to by those "lunching" him (Jackson and Sharpton).
Trust me, I am not condoning what he said, not in the least. What I am saying is that he doesn't deserve to be fired for it. He was, as you said, publically lynched. That to me is what the bigger issue is here. Not that he said something stupid and perhaps biggoted, but that they are condeming him to hell for it. All the while other people are allowed to say, and without firing, anything they want. That is wrong. And that is what is disgusting me about this country lately. There is a double standard and only the black or hispanic or "minorities" rights and freedoms are protected. It sucks and I am sick of it.
and that "Side Note" I mentioned in my first post was just that...a side note...a bit of irony...a tid bit of funny in the maddness that has come from this issue.
