Have you ever been listening to the radio and a song comes on that you are sure is something else??? It happens to me from time to time... So I thought it would be fun to post the songs that we think sound like other songs.. And of course we can always check them out, that's the beauty of music...

The one that I've noticed a LOT lately is...

Never Again by Kelly Clarkson... It sounds almost exactly like:

Holding Out For A Hero by Bonnie Tyler (The love theme from footloose)

Everytime I hear the Kelly Clarkson song.. I think I'm about to hear Bonnie Tyler...

Oh, there are a lot of songs on the country radio station I listen to that start out the same so I have to wait till they get into the song to know what it is. Of course I can't think of the names of the songs off the top of my head, but I'll come backl ater and add my list. Smile

There is a song that was popular several years ago that I thought sounded like "Angel of the Morning" by Marilee Rush. She was a one-hit-wonder with that song in 1968. I can't think of the song now, but they copied the melody and some of the lyrics and put a different beat to it and called it something else. I can't believe they didn't get sued for it as it sounded that close.. much closer than other songs that have been acused of plagerism.

“Ice Ice Baby” sounds like “Under Pressure”

Side note.. I always just assumed they got permission to use that one part of the song because it is the same.

What about ..

“I don’t want to miss a thing” by Aerosmith and “Do I make you proud” by Taylor Hicks. The choruses sound similar.

MC Hammer’s "Cant touch this" sounds just like Rick James' "Super Freak". It is so similar in the beat parts that I just always assumed MC was given permission or payed for the right to copy it.

Jet's "Are You Gonna Be My Girlfriend" is the same beat as Iggy Pop's "Lust for Life".

Are you thinking of the song 'Angel' by Shaggy????

Girl, you're my angel, you're my darling angel
Closer than my peeps you are to me, baby
Shorty, you're my angel, you're my darling
Angel
Girl, you're my friend when I'm in need, lady

The the chorus of the song anyway Wink

Yes! The chorus is a total rip-off of the Marilee Rush song.. even though they set it to a different beat, genre, and changed the lyrics.

Check it out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JBmbAqdxw8A

Compare the chorus to this 1968 song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ri1ZixuviRc

When the Shaggy song came out, I called the DJ on the radio and asked him if he heard the similarity and he said no, that he thought Shaggy's song was a rip-off of Steve Miller's "Joker". I didn't really see that similarity, but the chorus is way too similar to "Angel of the Morning" to not hear it.

By the way, you are a musical genious Jolie to have known what song I was talking about.. but I thought you might be the one to know this. Thumb Good Job!

Its just that I'm aquainted with both of those songs Wink (Actually all three of them Tongue) And I can see where the DJ would think that it was a rip-off of Steve Miller's The Joker.. Cuz the beat behind the Shaggy song, sounds a lot like the beat behind the chorus on the Steve Miller song but at double speed...

Cuz I'm a picker
I'm a grinner
I'm a lover
And I'm a sinner
I play my music in the sun

I'm a joke
I'm a smoker
I'm a midnight toker
I sure don't want to hurt no one

I'm a picker
I'm a grinner
I'm a lover
And I'm a sinner
I play my music in the sun

I'm a joker
I'm a smoker
I'm a midnight toker
I get my lovin' on the run
Wooo wooooo

In The Ten Commandments: The Musical there is a song called Where We Belong performed by Nita Whitaker, Luba Mason, and Michelle Pereira. I love this song. Hug

However, earlier in the story there is another song, equally lovely, called Rain Down Stars sung by Nita to Val Kilmer. Now, the beginning of this song is ABSOLUTELY IDENTICAL in melody to the latter song. I wonder if composer Patrick Leonard liked the particular composition so much he used it twice for two different songs? Surprise Smile

Cheers, Mikey Smile

And then there's Nickelback, who plagarize themselves at every opportunity.
