In connection with his appearance at Little Big Fest in Des Moines, Jon was interviewed by Joe Lawler in The Des Moines Register
Here are a couple of the interview's highlights, followed by my editorial comments :
"Q: How did you get hooked up with Authentic Records?
A: I have a buddy who worked for MTV, Cory Moss. He's from Iowa and grew up with the guys who started Authentic. He came to a show and said, 'I have some friends in Iowa who have something going on, they might be able to work with you.'
Q: Speaking of 'Pulp Fiction,' when he was a guest judge on 'Idol,' Quentin Tarantino called you 'The geekiest rocker since Freddie and the Dreamers.' What was your reaction to that?
A: It came at a time when I was really new to a lot of things. I look at myself at the time, and I wasn't sure what I was coming from. I had no fashion sense and didn't know who to trust. They ['American Idol' stylists] put streaks in my hair and a mish mash of clothes and I was just trying to make sense of it all. I was geeky once, but now I'm not, I swear! Looking back, I totally agree with him."
In MY opinion, geeky is a huge compliment. To the extent he was geeky, Jon was always geeky in a uniquely cool way. Embrace your inner geek, Jon!

You know I was watching the “Tyra Show” the other day and she was talking about how “geeky” is the new sexy. She did the whole show over how much of a turn on to women geeky men are becoming. Jon might not want to throw that label out the window to quickly. LoL
Personally, I don't think Jon was that geeky on Idol.

Bwahahahahahaha! I haven't laughed so hard in a long time. Check out Freddie and the Dreamers. Close to the end, Freddie goes geek wild. Jon is NOTHING like this guy. Jon has never done such a deep plie, this I know for absolute fact. Nor does he wear glasses. And those are the only points of comparison worth considering.

Quentin Tarantino is hopelessly geeky himself. Hasn't set him back one bit, has it?
The word "geek" has new connotations in pop culture these days. It now implies someone who is intelligent, has extensive expertise in certain arts or sciences, and is unafraid to break away from the conventional.
That's Tarantino* up and down. And Jon. And Buddy Holly. And Leonardo DaVinci. And any number of other other people who are influential because they came up with something original, and stood out for it.
(*Not a Tarantino fan, me. But I love Buddy Holly!)
tyra is very funny...lol. geeks are awesome though!
quentin seemed very pleased with him. i am sure that remark was meant in a complementary fashion.
i do have to say that jon is right that he's changed a lot since he was on AI...would be interesting to see what his show has been like this time around as he's been touring with the Nadas.
That is a funny video arts! lol @ Quinten for comparing that to Jon.
