Marc Cabrera of
The Monterey Herald in Monterey County, CA,
interviewed Jon in conjuction with Jon's recent concert there. I liked this quote where Jon expresses his frustration over the constraints placed on him during the show:
"First off, contestants are allowed to play instruments on stage for the first time.
'I'm totally bummed. I'm really bummed about that. I used to want to play the guitar on stage and they told us it would give us an unfair advantage,' he said. 'My guess was they're trying to change up the rules a little bit to make (the show) fresh.'
He was also envious of the big Beatles-theme weeks. Contestants got their crack at the highly valued catalogue of the most popular rock band in history.
Some of the contestants' choices were head-scratchers.
'There are 27 No. 1 hits by the Beatles,' he said. 'But nobody did "Hey Jude." Nobody did "Penny Lane," "Hello Goodbye," "Love Me Do." Nobody did those huge songs that were so phenomenal.'
'It was really frustrating for me. I'm a huge Beatles fan and for all the songs, you didn't pick any of these,' he said. 'That's just the way it is, I guess.'"
At least Jon now gets to cover Beatles' songs in concert. I must say, hearing Jon sing "I'm Looking Through You" at the Longwood concert was spectacular. He both sang it really well and played it really well. Go listen now for yourselves if you doubt my word.
