I'm Scheduled for the 2006 CMJ Music Marathon as a panelist at the 2006 CMJ Music Marathon for the panel "The "American Idol" Effect: A&R and Marketing in a World of Overnight Sensations." The panel will take place Saturday, November 4, 2006 at Lincoln Center in New York City. Come ask me some good questions.

I live in Oklahoma City. I wasn't sure if there was another Lawton or not. I'd love to have him come to Norman or OKC, but I'd also make the trek to just about anywhere in Texas or other surrounding states.
Hey I'm willing to go up there too, to Norman or OKC. But it would be great if he could come right here to Lawton. With all the Army people and the high turn over rate, more people can take along the name of JP Lewis.
it's like over 200 for the whole 5 days. but i just found out you can buy tickets to only certain events. not sure if that includes panels though Q: Do you have day passes? Night passes? One-day-only passes? A: In order to receive full admission to all CMJ events, including panel discussions, keynotes, performances, films and more, there is only one pass available - the general attendee or student attendee CMJ Music Marathon badge. Admission to all events is based on a first-come, first-served basis, due to room/club/theater capacities. CMJ Music Marathon badges are valid for all five days and nights of the festival. Most CMJ-sponsored showcases and Films are open to the public (there are exceptions) and tickets to each individual event are available through the venue's box office. For special badge offers please click here.

I wish I could come too! I'd love to see Jon, but I also noticed that Beth Nielsen Chapman, a singer-songwriter I am becoming very fond of, will also be a panellist, and it would have been good to meet her too.
My daughter just told me that a friend of hers who's a college radio broadcaster at Wake Forest is goig to this meeting. Apparently it's a really big deal in the college radio circle. I hope jon gets a chance to showcase his music somehow.
CMJ stands for "College Music Journal." It is a very important and influential organization. The CMJ Music Festival that Jon will be participating in attracts 100,000 people. Wikipedia describes it well in this ARTICLE:
"College Music Journal, commonly known as CMJ, is a music events/publishing company most famous for its annual festival in New York City, the CMJ Music Marathon, as well as a weekly magazine of and for the music industry and college radio stations in the United States and Canada. It publishes top 30 lists sent by stations which subscribe at a cost of a few hundred dollars a year. It is also sent to record companies and their public relations and publicity representatives as well as record stores. CMJ also publishes CMJ New Music Monthly, a magazine with interviews, reviews, and special features. Each magazine comes with a CD of 15-24 songs by well-established bands, unsigned bands and everything in between. The staff puts together CMJ Music Marathon, a large convention and music festival, each autumn, in New York's Manhattan. A second festival has been added: the CMJ Rock Hall Music Fest, staged annually in Cleveland."
From the CMJ site itself, we read the following information about the Marathon:
"For the past 25 years CMJ Music Marathon has been a beacon for the world’s best new music, introducing thousands of rising stars at showcases and concerts at New York City’s most important venues. Early Marathon performances by bands from R.E.M. to the Beastie Boys, Green Day, Radiohead, the Black Eyed Peas, Eminem, the Killers, Arcade Fire and so many others helped launch some of music’s biggest and brightest careers, while legends like Patti Smith, Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson and James Brown have also graced CMJ’s stages, inspiring younger artists and seasoned professionals alike.
Today, more than 100,000 music professionals, artists and fans converge on the music capital of the world every autumn for CMJ Music Marathon and CMJ FilmFest, celebrating the very best in new music, film and pop culture."
