I am posting this up so nobody misses it, though the date seems to have an error. I guess we missed the concert, but if anyone out there lives nearby and can hustle down to the parade tonight, then you will get to see Jon.

Mardi Gras! Grand Marshal JPL performs in Louisiana

Jon has been invited to be the Grand Marshal and headline performer of the Larose, New Orleans Mardi Gras celebration. Jon will be the headline performer at the Civic Center on Friday, January 17th, 8:00pm, then he will lead the parade along the bayou on Saturday, February 17th. The parade is scheduled to start at 7pm.

I'm trying to claify this. It is likely that nobody will be able to attend with this late notice, but this will be for your information, if nothing else.

It looks as if Larose is in the parish (county) of Lafourche, LA. The parade may actually begin at 6 or 6:30, although the site does say that the listed times are subject to change. I found the following information at the Lafourche tourist site.

"February 17, 2007
Krewe of Babylon Mardi Gras Parade
Larose - 6PM

February 17, 2007
Le Krewe Du Bon Temps Mardi Gras Parade
Larose - 6:30PM"

Wow that's cool. I would love to hear from someone who went to the concert or parade.

An article by John DeSantis in HoumaToday.com highlights Jon's appearance at the Larose Mardi Gras parade. Before you can read the article, you need to register, but that is painless and easy. This is my favorite quote: "Lewis continues marching to his own independent musical beat, cultivating an audience with a style that defies pigeonholing."

You can say that again, Mr. DeSantis. Jon's style ranges much more widely than any other former AI singer. Perhaps his next song will have a Cajun flair to it!

The article also explains how Jon ended up as grand marshall of this parade hosted by the krewe of Babylon. A leader in the krewe works each summer at a camp in Malibu. While there, he was discussing with someone his desire to have a celebrity guest to bring more prestige to his krewe and its parade. That person put him in touch with Jon's management.

As an ironic side note--In ancient times, Babylon became the symbol of materialism, decadence, and worldliness. So it is ironic that Jon is leading this particular parade since his songs point out the pitfalls and failures of modern-day Babylon, i.e. Hollywood. But you know, it's gotta be fun to throw plastique beads.

I posted this in the Mardi Gras party thread, but it really should be in here too...

Here is my other juicy little treat tonight. I have been trying to get anyone who attended the “Krewe Of Babylon“ parade on February 17th to come by and tell us how our Grand Marshall (hehehe) did. You‘ll never believe who I found. Here is the email.

quote:
Hey My name is Jade Galliano , I have founded the Krewe Of Babylon in 2001, and it was our 6th year this year. We now have another competition parade , and as the founder I wanted to do something special for the parade this year , so I looked up Jon peter Lewis , cuz I knew people in this area know him from Idol. So I contacted Judy and she checked his schedule and to a surprise he was free and willing to do that, to help the Bayou community of Louisiana. Jon sung "Rodeo" and he done an outstanding job. He also sang Amanda Grace. Meeting him in person was great , he is an energy filled guy . he has a lot going for him in life and many people down here want to support his music.

Even more news is that Jade got a bunch of pictures of Jon and allowed me to share them with you on the site. You can read more about the “Krewe Of Babylon” here on myspace “Krewe Of Babylon” here on myspace. Jade did say that the page was in desperate need of updating but that should be done soon.
