Idol Singers Wonder-ful Friday March 17, 2006 3:00AM PT
Chris Daughtry Even before Stevie Wonder week challenged the 12 finalists on American Idol, his songs had proven popular among the show's early contestants. After Wednesday's broadcast, searches on the Motown hitmaker were flying like a ribbon in the sky, soaring 32% and propelling the legend into our top 600 searches. Searches for his lyrics, songs, and biography were also humming.
Towering above the rest of Stevie's songs in Search was the appropos "Higher Ground," which climbed 45% after Chris Daughtry brought down the house with a rockin' Chili Peppers flavored version of the tune. Other Wonder-ful songs hitting a high note in Buzz included "Until You Come Back to Me" (performed by Katharine McPhee), "Superstition" (performed by Bucky Covington), "Blame It on the Sun" (performed by Kellie Pickler), and "Knocks Me off My Feet" (performed by Elliott Yamin). The night's most confusing performance -- 16-year-old Kevin Covais singing "Part-Time Lover" -- didn't impassion searchers. We can't wait to see how the young man who's been labeled "Chicken Little" fares during the upcoming '50s week.

I loved Chris tonight... He completely rewrote the music for that song (well I know he didn't himself, but you know).. And OMG someone should just sign him now!
Chris is going to win..this is why...Hes original..Hes doesnt stray away from who he is and he is current. Listening to him tonight I thought to myself..I could hear this on the radio!

You are right, he didnt rewrite the song. The band Live (sang: Lightening Crashes) did the rewrite when they covered the song. Chris just copied their version of it. BTW- Chris ROCKS. I am so going out & buying Live's CD today... I'd be buying tickets to see Chris. I sure hope AI comes to LR again!

Wow, I didn't know that. Live is a good pick for him, though. Similar sound, range, whatnot. But it bums me out, I thought he was awesome! Oh well, he still sounded fantastic.
I was getting a haircut today and overheard 2 Chris fans. They were talking about how great his version of "Walk the Line" was. They thought he was so talented, because he came up with the new version of the song. They were in another room and ,I thought, it was rude of me to jump into the conversation, however, if I had been in the same room I would have pointed out that he did not orginate that version. Anyway, I just let them be happy.
I didn't know Chris didn't write the new version, but I would have been really surprised if he had. When they've only got one week to prepare a new song, coming up with a completely new, creative arrangement would be difficult. However, as I've said before, singers like Chris have to be musicians and song-writers themselves, or they have to have access to song-writers. You can't make a living doing covers, because rock songs are too closely associated with the original artist. I think Chris is a talented performer, but only time will tell if he can be a true artist.

I think this is the first time we haven't agreed on something Gidg. Better write this one down!
I love Nickelback.
Only because I have heard the song "Photograph" a MILLION and ONE times on the radio, especially during that time I had to be tortured with radio for that week I was trying to win Bo Bice tickets. I am more than sick of that song and anything that sounds like Nickelback because of that week!

He is a true artist. Go listen to his band. They have some good stuff avaiable to listen to. He is blacked out on the home page due to Idol rules....
