He looked pretty shocked to be there. I must say he was very graceful after being declared safe. We have seen too many people hop up and down with glee whilst standing next to the person who is about to be eliminated.
I was really surprised to see Ace in the bottom 3. I really like him but not the songs he has been singing. It will be interesting to see what he does next week.
The way I figure it, there are two schools of voters - those who pick a favourite early on and vote like mad, and those who vote based on the performance each week. It seems to me that last week Ace would've had the first group (looks at Dee) but the second group wouldn't have done anything for him. So in the future, he needs to work on not just pleasing his already fans, but pleasing those who are going to judge week by week, too. He's cute, I hope I can vote for him next week
^^^ Oh! I know!!! I think the only reason I was so upset last night was because he HAS to make it to the top 10! I don't know if Im going if he doesn't.
I think it's almost impossible that he not make the top ten, unless he has a hideous performance next week. I suspect him being in the bottom three will be a wake-up call for his fans, like it has been in the past for others. Remember, we all got fooled because jon had never even been in the bottom three and wham-o (which to this day I do not understand....has that ever happened before or since???), but if someone falls into the bottom three, usually their fans turn out like crazy the next week. I predict Ace will not even be in the bottom three next week, and I'd bet a lot of money I'm right. Don't fail to vote for him if you like him, though
He looked scared to me, like a deer in the headlights, when in the bottom 3.
I'm sure we all remember Diana Degarmo's "Happy Dance" all the way back to her seat when declared safe and she continued on to be #2. I think he will be "safe" for awhile anyway.
There could have been several factors as to why he was there. A Stevie Wonder night is not the best for most singers. I wasn't too thrilled with any of them. Stevie Wonder is great, but his songs are so uniquely him that it is hard for others to pull them off. Also ... some people may have watched and voted for the first time since it is now the top 12 so this may be their first exposure to him and it didn't make a good impression. Just my thoughts ....
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass.. It's about learning to dance in the rain."
I know someone who can pull off Stevie Wonder songs.
I was also thinking that this might be Ace's first impression on some people... the same goes for all of them, really, but some would feel it more. On the other hand, Ace has gotten a significant amount of attention in the press. And JPL's attracted to hi, so that has to count for something! (I can't say I have the same taste in men as Jon.)
lol Yes, I know someone who can pull off a Stevie Wonder song too! Not only pull it off, but turn it into a great performance on tour!
Jon's Ace comment totally cracked me up!

From IDF: Ace Young's guest appearance on UPN's "Half and Half"
"His guest stint re-airs April 3" on UPN
dunno if yall knew yet so i'm just posting it now, the ep he was on originally aired in October, and they replayed it in January or February I think, well they're replaying it again I guess, sooner than I thought, check your local listings and all that.
I saw it when it originally aired, and well both times, he did awesome in it, i don't wanna reveal too much of it, but he plays a baseball player who wants to be a singer, and yes he sings on the show!!! so watch it yall, oh and btw Half & Half is a great show you should watch it now anyways lol
oh and i think he went by Ace Blackwell, i'd have to look at the credits again, but i think that's what it said, i'm not sure what is his real name anymore, and i think earlier in the AI auditions he went by something else, other than Ace Young, maybe it was Ace Blackwell Young or something, i dunno somebody tell me, cuz i forgot i'd have to go back and look at all the auditions they showed him in.

American Idol's" Simon Cowell came to "Extra" to warn voters everywhere: "You've got to be very careful because a show like this will turn into a popularity competition, rather than a talent competition."
So which singers have talent? Simon revealed that Ace is still one of his favorites. But could the young heartthrob's good looks actually hurt him in the competition?
"It's never been a problem for me, funny enough," Cowell said. "You deal with that. First of all, you think it's a burden and then you go, 'No, I can use it as an asset.'"

For the first time this season, I went to Idolonfox and checked out Jaded's stuff. I love that he calls Ace, Brett! That is good stuff.

Ace Young living the 'Idol' life Contestant from Boulder considered early front-runner on reality show
By Greg Glasgow, Camera Music Writer March 1, 2006
After months of confidentiality, Fox finally let "American Idol" contestants speak with the press this week and gave the Daily Camera a chance to check in with Ace Young, the contestant from Boulder who is now in the program's Top 20.
Young, 25, appears on tonight's episode (7 p.m., KDVR-Channel 31), competing with the nine remaining male contestants. The top 10 female singers performed Tuesday night. The bottom two vote-getters of each gender will be sent home after a live results show Thursday night.
Q: How's life?
A: Life is amazing right now. All I have to focus on is the next week and getting over the nerves of the last performance and getting comfortable and settling myself in.
Q: You've been performing professionally for years and probably have more experience than many of the other contestants, but is being on "American Idol" still a big adjustment?
A: It's a big change. We're in a hotel, we have a curfew, we have to stay healthy and we're under cameras at all times. Everywhere we go, people are noticing us. Even if you try to go in disguise, it seems that every third person you see is like "Good luck!" It's amazing. They're keeping us safe and keeping security guards with us if we go anywhere, go to the store or whatever, just so that if some fans come up, it's handled in the right way, to where they get an autograph, and I get to know them a little better and they keep supporting the show.
Q: Have you become friends with any of your fellow contestants?
A: I became really close with Bobby Bennett, from Denver; Chris Daughtry and I are buddies, and it just keeps spreading out. Everybody here is interested in the same things, so it's great to have so many people who have so much in common.
Q: How seriously do you take all the reports that you're an early front-runner on the show?
A: It's a bar that I put up high, and I have to live up to it every week. It's nerve-wracking. I'm learning a brand-new song every week for performance, and other than just trying to remember the words and portray the emotion of the song, I have other guys going up before me and just killing their songs, doing great jobs. It's a lot to live up to.
Q: You live in Los Angeles now; how much of a connection do you still have to Boulder?
A: I'm in L.A., but I try to get ahold of my dad every day, and my mom every day. They definitely ground me and kind of remind me of the family values that I've grown up with and who I am, so that all these people who are interested in me doesn't go to my head to where I think I'm the most interesting thing in the world because I know I'm not.
Q: What do you want to say to your fans in Boulder who are voting for you every week?
A: Keep supporting your boy. I'm having a blast, I hope you guys are having fun with me. I want to ride this as long as I can, and I can't wait to get back and see everybody.
Q: You already were building a career in music in L.A. Why did you come back to Denver to audition for "American Idol?"
A: I was performing, and it's a cutthroat business. It's not an easy lifestyle to break into, to be a musician. The problem was not being able to get to my potential fan base, not being able to perform for my potential fan base. And this show is like a launching pad that puts you out in front of everybody so whoever likes you can pick you. And I thought "What better way to start than 'American Idol?'" I can't think of anything better.
