Auditions begin August 8 in Los Angeles CA to be followed by stops in San Antonio TX, East Rutherford, NJ. (near New York City), Birmingham AL, Memphis TN and Minneapolis MN with the last stop in Seattle WA on Sept. 19.
"Three of those cities get their first visits from the Idol crowd: Memphis (which was dropped at the last minute last summer because of Hurricane Katrina), Minneapolis and Birmingham, the prolific hometown of previous winners Ruben Studdard and Taylor Hicks and runner-up Bo Bice.
'Because that's where so many of our Idols have come from, that's a must,' says executive producer Nigel Lythgoe. 'If they paid us a visit, we must pay them.'
All of the auditions will shift indoors, to protect against the rain that soaked tryouts in Chicago, Boston and San Francisco last year and the stifling 105-degree heat that plagued Austin."
Otherwise, the song remains the same: Auditions are open to most anyone ages 16 to 28 as of Aug. 6 who's eligible to work in the USA."

WHen I was in 8th grade I sang for the President (Bill Clinton)....But I think I've lost my musical talents since I stopped doing vocal lessons in high school classes.
But there are quite a few of my old high school classmates that are trying out this summer for AI6...maybe we can make fun of them! LOL! (that's my favorite part at first)
UsaToday's Idol Chatter Blog did a great job yesterday covering the LA Auditions taking place in Pasadena's Rose Bowl. Here are two accounts from auditioners who've moved on to the second round:
Brandon Rogers, a 28-year-old L.A. resident, was all set to sing the Donny Hathaway version of Leon Russell's A Song for You, a common choice thanks to Elliott Yamin's impressive rendition this past season. Just as he was about to start, he heard someone at the next table over singing that very song, so he made an instant switch to Stevie Wonder's Overjoyed. The producers asked him to do another song, so he sang Rascal Flatts' Moving On, and they told him he had a "real nice spirit" and produced the golden ticket signifying he'd made it to round two.
Adam Plotch, 28, was 3,000 miles away yesterday, but he made a last-minute decision to catch a flight to L.A. and audition. He bought the last seat on a flight from New York and came to the audition, sang Stevie Wonder's I Just Called to Say I Love You and got his new ticket to ride.
Interestingly, it's reported that many contestants are auditioning with Donny Hathaway songs--thanks to Elliott Yamin's championing of Hathaway's music last season.

10,000 show up for Idol auditions in LA but "it doesn't look like a very talented bunch"
Yesterday in LA, 10,000 people got in line to audition for American Idol 6. But executive producer Nigel Lythgoe told USA TODAY that “it doesn’t look like a very talented bunch.”
Still, he says they’ll probably make good TV, as “[t]he arrogance is still here after all these seasons. Our bar goes up every single year. (That) is a problem for them.”
The AP reports that most of the about 10,000 hopeful idols each “got less than a minute to sing a few bars — and then the boot.” They auditioned in front of producers, and only those who make it through another round will be make it in front of the judges
Both USA TODAY and The Los Angeles Times talked to and surveyed the crowd, and the stories are unquestionably familiar.

Songwriters will get to add their voices to "American Idol" next season. The Fox TV contest, which has produced instant pop stars and hit records, will allow both professional and amateur songwriters to compete for the chance to write songs for the finalists, a spokesman for series creator Simon Fuller said Monday.
In the past, the show has called on an industry songwriter or producer to write an original song for each of the two finalists, with the new "idol" or even the runner-up consistently scoring best-selling records with the tunes.
Last season's winner Taylor Hicks is on the charts with "Do I Make You Proud," which he performed on the finale.
The songwriting contest is aimed at getting numbers that might be better matches for the contestants, Fuller told the Los Angeles Times.
Details of the new competition were not available, Fuller spokesman Eric Green said Monday.
Auditions for the sixth season of TV's top-rated series were scheduled to begin Tuesday at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena and continue in six other cities through September. "American Idol" returns in January.
Anyone but Tamyra Grey apply for that PLEASE! Nothing against Tamyra, but I don't like the songs she writes...
