American Idol Runner Up Blake Lewis: Ready to Focus on Acting, Singing --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
By Wendy Cook May 26, 2007
No one expected Blake Lewis to win American idol. The funky beat boxer from Washington state was fortunate to make it to the finals. But the 25-year old has been all class throughout the competition, especially in the finals when he helped Jordin Sparks keep her composure by whispering support in her ear as it was announced by host Ryan Seacrest that Jordin Sparks was the next American Idol.
American Idol Runner Up Blake Lewis: Ready to Focus on Acting, Singing And he says he's perfectly fine with his second place finish. "I never looked at it as winning and losing. I just tried going out and performing really well each day," the 25-year-old says. "In a sense, I’m kind of glad I didn't win just for like contractual reasons. I think if you're first you might have to come back for like three years or something." *** Smart guy. He will be much better off being able to guide his own musical future and he will has a good start now. And don't expect Blake to go diva and diss the show as some have done in the past. American Idol is such an amazing show and experience," he adds. "I honestly didn't care one bit [about] winning or losing, because I call myself a winner just by getting into the top 10." Blake said he's focusing on the future, which he hopes includes acting as well as performing music. "If acting comes calling and I get the right opportunities and the right script, or just to do voiceover work for maybe like a Pixar or DreamWorks movie – I think that would be a plus," he says. "I love being goofy, I love doing different voices. I've been doing it since I was a kid." *** People Magazine reports that in the meantime, Lewis will focus on his singing career and he has a specific type of music in mind for his first album. "My music. I've been making it for seven years," he says. "[It's] very electro-pop, hip-hop music in a sense of Duran Duran [and] Michael Jackson. I'm a child of the '80s, so it's definitely going to have very advanced thing to it with more of a melodic jazzy, like Maroon 5, Jamiroquai, but definitely more on the hip-hop and electronic kind of thing." Asked which previous American Idol has a career that he would like to emulate, "None of them," says Lewis. "I want to set my own path."

OMG!!! I totally can't wait for his album... Seriously it sounds like a good mix... (I wonder if it will be kinda like JT's new album... which has been called Hip-Pop )
Maroon 5 strikes a balance between the serious and the sexy on new album
..In person, Levine is refreshingly candid and often hilariously profane, but his salty language can’t hide his decent core. At the end of the interview, he apologizes for slightly poking fun at “Idol” contestant Blake Lewis, whom the band has known for years, during the interview; as if the notion he may have said something demeaning has been weighing on him the whole time. Or maybe he’s just afraid that his innocent comment will be taken the wrong way…

Do you have any regrets? Blake: No, never. I never have regrets. I had too much fun on this experience. It's been an amazing journey. I never thought I'd get to this moment ever! I'm so completely satisfied coming in second.
What can we expect of you after the tour? Is anything falling into place? Any ideas about an album? Blake: Definitely an album will be in the works. Not exactly sure with who yet, but there is a little talk. I'll be going to New York to talk with the right people to get that underway. It'll have electro-pop that's very easy to dance to. Like take Jamiroquai and mix it with Michael Jackson's "Bad." Things like that.
Do you think you will help make American Idol be more hip, more contemporary? Blake: I can only hope it keeps a contemporary edge. I think if the show wants to have continued success, they need to pay more favor to what's out there, what's current.
Now that you're the crown prince of pop karaoke, some people say you've sold out. Did you? Blake: Definitely not! I represented myself and stayed true to myself through the entire process. I never had a huge fan base, so you can't sell out without a fan base!
What would you like to say to the Blaker Girls? Blake: I speak to them on a daily basis. I love them. I love the support.
You seem like a ladies' man. Is that charm something you've always had or did it grow on you? Blake: I'm definitely not the ladies' man! I've been in some pretty serious relationships, but I was nerdy, a loner in high school. I didn't have many relationships. I've gotten more confident in my relationships and my journey in finding the right woman.

I agree Strawberry, his voice was great in that song. I don't think he needed the background beat boxing for this paticular song though. Anyway, I loved it and thought the echo was a great touch. I like the beat boxing in other songs, I just thought his voice was so beautiful in this song that the background kind of distracted from it.

Blake Lewis: Glad That This Isn't His 'Now' LOS ANGELES, Calif. (May 30, 2007) -- Did you hear the song "This Is My Now" on "American Idol" and think it was perfect for Jordin Sparks and wrong for Blake Lewis? They did, too.
The song will be Sparks' first single, since she was the winner. Lewis admits it's a song that he would never sing if he didn't have to.
Lewis says he would prefer something bluesy or jazzy, or, in his words, "an uplifting song that's not so linear."
Sparks says when she first heard the song, she couldn't believe how perfect it was for her. She says it relates to what she's been dreaming about and she feels it spoke to her.
Lewis really doesn't mind that he didn't win "American Idol." He says one reason he's glad he didn't win is because of some of the things he'd be required to do for contractual reasons. He didn't go into specifics, but he says he might have had to come back for three years and "do stuff."
What about those who knew Lewis as a struggling musician who say he sold out? He doesn't think he sold out because he stayed true to himself the whole time.
He says he never had a fan base before "American Idol," so he couldn't sell out until he had fans. As Lewis puts it, "As soon as you hear me start singingmore songs like 'This Is My Now,' then you can say I sold out."

I hate that machine that he uses. Just sing the song Blake...loose that "assist" of the machine!
