According to Ian Pirie, head of 19 Recordings US,

"What struck us about this year’s group was the depth of the talent, and we think they’ll each pull in their own fan base,” says Iain Pirie, head of 19 Recordings U.S., which organizes the tour.

“As opposed to hearing duets and trios sing, this year it’ll be more about the individuals. We’ll give them the space and freedom to do their own set. Think of it as coming to see 10 mini-concerts.”

Thanks for all that BigNLiddle. I've been wondering but have been too busy to go look for it. I want to go this year, and I haven't been since Jon's year.

I'm kind of disappointed if they actually do go back to season four and five's format. Sure, I could see more solo Michael time, but I do have to admit I love the cheesy group songs.

Yeah, but this year's group did not blend well on the group songs. The Gospel song was the only one in which they sounds good together.

`American Idol’ concert tour will start July 1

Whether it’s David Archuleta or David Cook who wins “American Idol” next week, both singers will be part of the show’s annual concert tour.

Tickets for this summer’s “American Idols Live! Tour,” which features the TV show’s top 10 contestants, go on sale Saturday, said series creator Simon Fuller and concert promotion company AEG Live in an announcement Thursday.

With more than 50 stops, the tour is scheduled to begin July 1 in Glendale, Ariz., and end in September in Tulsa, Okla. A Toronto concert is included, with tickets for that concert on sale Friday.

The Idols were on Larry king and each said one song they were going to sing on tour:

David Cook - his crappy coronation song, “The Time of My Life”
David Archuleta - “Angels”
Syesha Mercado - “I Ain’t Got You”
Jason Castro says he’ll be “busting out the ukulele” - “Over the Rainbow”
Brooke White - “Let it Be”
Carly Smithson - “Bring Me to Life” by Evanescence
Kristy Lee Cook - “God Bless the USA”
Ramiele Malubay - “I Want You Back” by Jackson 5
Chikezie - “I Believe to My Soul

(Michael was in Vegas and was not able to comment)

Carly's song should be HOT

The Tour Set List: David reveals the set list to Michael Slezak, and it’s basically a mini-concert of his Idols Greatest Hits, including “Billie Jean,” “Hello”, “Always Be My Baby” and “Time of My Life” (which Jessica Shaw makes him call “Magic Rainbow”-Har). The fifth song is “not yet set in stone,” according to David. Duets and collaborations may include Carly Smithson performing Heart’s “Barracuda” with David backing her on guitar and Jason Castro on drums. That has the potential to be all kinds of awesome.

Remember that trio for the tour David Cook mentioned in his EW Idolatry interview? It had Carly Smithson singing “Barracuda” with Jason Castro on drums and Cook on guitar.

Sounds pretty sweet, doesn’t it? Too bad! According to some Castro insiders on Idol Forums, the entire number has been pulled. Also, a request for a Brooke White/Jason Castro duet (Jason said on Larry King Live that he’d like to do a duet with Brooke) has been denied by TPTB.

There are lots of rumors swirling around about why the song was nixed. The prevalent feeling is that TPTB don’t want to bring “too much attention to certain Idols” at the expense of others. Who knows?

The Top 10 are interviewed from the set of their tour rehearsal by Good Day Live. No news in the video, but you might enjoy them goofing around with the reporter.

Bonus: The David’s are interviewed by Entertainment Tonight. The pair talk about their upcoming records, but it isn’t anything we haven’t heard already.
