Someone suggested that it would work well to have a new thread for concert reviews, and I liked that idea, so I'll get it started. Orange surprised me by calling me tonight so I could listen in on Jon's concert. Orange, thank you ever so much. I'll babysit anytime to repay you!
Since I was listening over a cell phone, the music did not come through especially clearly. Nevertheless, sitting there listening was still blissful. It just about broke my heart to hear him sing the first song, Jackson Browne's "These Days." I'll count on jolie to give you the complete lyrics, but Jon sang them with such poignancy and feeling--"Don't remind me of my failures, I have not forgotten them."
In my notes, the other one that made me start to tear up was "Turn To Grey." I haven't had that reaction to the song in a long time, probably not since I first heard it clear back in Idaho Falls and suddenly realized that Jon did indeed have what it takes to make a go of this music career. Jon really did sound wonderful on all the songs. He hit plenty of high notes and hit them well. I kept hoping he would also do "Man Like Me," but alas, he didn't. Here is my weak attempt at a song list. It might help those who really were there remember what they need to talk about.
1. "These Days"--so powerful and heartfelt
2. Maybe a Jon original. Something about "feet on the ground" and "it's funny how life brings you down" and MAYBE "beautiful"
3. Couldn't hear this one near as well. I think maybe the phone was not set right then. Probably another new Jon song. Might have said something about "I will hold pieces" and "I told you how to make." Wild guesses there.
4. "Plastique on the Inside." Jon said he had just finished the lyrics yesterday. He also said, "Hallelujah, it's done."

A new line about a Beauty Queen had the audience cheering. Someone else will have to tell about that.
5. "Turn To Grey" Extremely well done.
6. A Soul medley. Again, someone else better explain that one.
7. Rodeo--the ending was particularly great.
8. "Amanda Grace" Sounded better to me than on the album even.
9. "I'm Looking Through You" Beatles. This one was very lovely to me. Jon made this song moving.
I really want to hear Jon do an acoustic show like this. I think it would be such an amazing thing to hear live in person. Such a show would be sheer delight to me. Pure and simple music. I want more. Jon, please, please, please bring this show to the Washington D.C. area and/or Virginia. And come on a Friday night when I can likely attend. Please? Please?
