These reviews merit their own thread. Earlier, in
another thread, I had noted Kathy Knox's positive review of Jon's
Godspell performance in the
Highland Community News.
And now, Darcie Flansburg of the
The Redlands Daily Facts praises Jon's portrayal of Jesus:
"American Idol finalist Jon Peter Lewis (aka 'JPL') played a humble and sweet Jesus, which was more evident in contrast to Steven Merritt's dark and sinister Judas. . . .
[I've omitted some stuff from the article]
But what I truly love about 'Godspell,' obviously, is the music, and the Civic Light Opera cast belted out their designated songs with great passion and tremendous vocal talents.
I couldn't even point out a weak link in this chorus, because the ensemble vocals were the most magnificent aspect of this show."
Darcie Flansburg, who wrote this review, is an Inland Theater League judge and a member of the American Association of Theater Critics, so she clearly knows what she is talking about.
And for the sake of organization, I'll also repeat Kathy Knox's excellent review here:
"The key role is portrayed with genuine love by Jon Peter Lewis, known as JPL on Season 3 of American Idol. Lewis was in the 'final 10' alongside Fantasia Barrino and Jennifer Hudson and is now working on his second album."
