I was watching an animal special on the Nature Channel the other day, and they said that the closest living relative of the elephant is the hyrax. That was the description of the show, and when I actually watched it, my jaw literally dropped.
Now you all know what an elephant looks like...but just to be sure...
The Elephant:
Now, the picture I'm about to show you which I found online is going to startle and shock anyone who has never heard of a hyrax before. Don't get me wrong, I think hyraxes are beautiful and I wouldn't even mind having one for a pet...but related to an ELEPHANT????
The Hyrax:
Are they kidding?
Whoever made this comparison was smoking *something* for sure...

Could this be the relative since they are so strong?
LoL...kidding....
I like the little guy, he's cute, but yeah, related....not a chance.

If you think that little hyrax is cute, check out this adorable little guy (named Luigi) that Sean Astin is holding in this photo. I have to send you guys to the link because the actual full-sized photo may be too big for the forums.
You can actually buy the calendar from which this photo is part of here. Proceeds of the calendar will go toward funds for the PDSA (People's Dispensary [For] Sick Animals).
