We all (or at least most of us...or some of us...or just me) have gone trough situations where we (I) wonder if things just happened or if there was a reason for them to happen, like the friends we have, the place where we are living, this time, these years, etc...but WHY? Did I wake up one day and find myself with people who are a lot like me? People I can call my friends? Do soul mates just appear out of nowhere or did destiny do something that made me find such a person? Let me put it this way... When I was little, lets say, like 5 years old, I said once: "I want a boyfriend that speaks more than 2 languages". I don't remember saying it, but my family does, and it is actually scary because my boyfriend speaks 3 languages fluently. The common here is at least 2, and in some cases a third one is being studied, which is not always spoken in a fluent way, since it is not relevant, some do of course, but not so many. Are we meant to be or it was coincidence? It could be each of them, depending on your beliefs, but in mine, it's something more than just a casual event. I'm a year behind than the rest of my high school class because I chose to live out of my country for a certain period which was not validated here. He's years behind because he lived in several places overseas during his childhood. We both chose to go to the same college we are now because we already knew the school system...isn't that a little odd? Both of us have a younger brother. Both of them feel passion for music, but not a simple passion, its very similar the way they like it, not so much out going personalities, similar people around them, very similar way of speaking and other stuff that reminds me my brother when I'm with my boyfriend's lil bro, and vice-versa for my bf. One is almost a year older than the other. The difference: they live in different places. I moved for college, that's why. The college my boyfriend chose was his last option, the city was mine, but I really really like it now. As a last minute thing I decided I wanted to move there and go to that university...so, if its just a coincidence is a very very big one, if not...then not (how deep)!

I think it's wonderful you found someone you are so compatible with. I find it best not to over analyze situations like that. Most things in life are not coincidence, but I'm not so sure I fully believe in destiny either. All I know is when you find happiness, don't analyze it or it will go away (tis the case with me). Just be happy and enjoy that you have found someone you are comfortable and happy with.
P.S. Nice to see you back on the boards.

I won't try to analyze it because I agree with you, when an event is stuck on our minds and we just go around it we get to stop living our real lives, or worry about things that don't exist or won't happen. It's true I wonder why, but there's a point when I just have to learn to let go. I just wanted to share a situation that makes me believe that there's more than coincidence, but of course, it might have some of it. I think that if there is a destiny, it can also change its way with our actions.

I have heard it said before that God has a plan for each of us. No matter our actions, His plan will be met. Just let go and let God. No matter what we do, He has control. (so they say) I say, enjoy the good while you can.

ILuvJON I do beleive that we attract certain people, places and things in our lives. Sounds like you have made a great connection with this person. And that can be a wonderful thing. You'll find as you go on in your life you'll meet many people that are special in that way all for different reasons.
I do beleive that things happen for a reason. When it's a good thing thats great when it's a not so good thing I like to beleive that God can help me use the experience for good if I ask. I too beleive we can change our destiny by changing our actions. Some of the paths I started on as a younger person were not serving me but I felt destined at times to be there. Changing my actions was all it took to get off the wrong paths. Not that it was easy by any means...
Like Gidget said, overanalysing things can mess you up sometimes. I tend to do this. I guess the point here is yes I beleive this young man is in your life for a reason. Whether he's the one or not only God knows at this moment.
I wish you and him the best of luck on your journeys and to your little brothers as well.
I like what both of your quotes (you and Gidget)say on the bottom. If people can figure those things out while your young how happier you will be.
Thanks a lot for your opinion! I believe that everything is for a reason. And its also true what you both said. Analyzing too much can mess up tings because we start stages in our head that don't exist, and then, for some reason, we attract them. The whole thing of the attraction can be scary. Our mind is very powerful, more than we actually believe. If we are to analyze, I believe it has to be for good. We have to picture good things, and have and idea of what we want, not about what we DONT want, because we will attract it. Lets say I buy this fancy and expensive car. If I spend my whole life worried about it being stolen, it will happen. Intead, I should say: I want my car and I will always have it, or as long as I want, No one with steal it. Everything in the means of visualization. I don't know if he's the one. I think about my future, I know what I want but I dont spend too much planning because I know that things change quickly. I like what I have now, and I enjoy it as much as I can, because, as they say: "you never know..."

Ok... Here is my perspective having grown up LDS... To quote a Primary (Primary is the children's classes and they have songs) song...
"My life is a gift, my life is a plan, my life has a purpose, in heaven it began. My choice was to come to this lovely home on earth and seek for God's light to direct me from birth."
So what does that mean? Well we believe that before we were born we all made a choice during the war in heaven (The fall of Satan from heaven to hell) and we all chose to follow Christ, which is why we came to Earth, to gain a body and to be tested and to try to return to our Father in Heaven, by the choices that we make...
Now there are things that if we obey the Lord will happen and there are things that if we don't obey the Lord will happen... They have been set for us before we were born, and it is our choices that will take us on whatever path we choose..
So in a way.. it is a bit of Destiny mixed in with a lot of Free Will The one good think about life is, that it is never too late to change your path...

I agree. I mean I think fate (destiny... whatever you wanna call it) plays a HUGE part. But hey, if you dont want to go with it, you can change things. Thats were the free will part comes in.
Its crazy how things turn out (like the similaritys and stuff in Marianas first post). And I know Gidge said to NOT over analyze, but like Lisa said about herself, I love to analyze. Haha. Seriously, I can talk about this stuff for hours on end.

Just read a quote by Winston Churchhill, "You create your own universe as you go along". That is really powerful to me. I didn't beleive stuff that like before because I thought it was incompatible with my sprititual beleifs. Now I understand that it is not and I can use that type of thinking to my advantage.

This is very true. I do beleive in divine intervention, rather than luck or superstition. But I also believe in cause and effect. i.e If you place your hand on a hot oven, you will get burned. I believe that God, if he wanted to, could make you not burn your hand at all. But, as in almost every case, the person's hand was burned. So, the decisions you make definately affect your future, and the decisions you make are your own. But there are circumstances and situations that just blindside you sometimes. I've had them, and I just shake my head and accept it. So, in a nutshell, I'm just saying what everyone else has. I believe that there are forces beyond our control, but that you do have the power to shape what you will become. That's what I think, anyways.
There is also self-fulfilled prophecy. Think negatively, negative things happen. Think positively, positive things happen.

Yes that is so true! I've been reading alot on this stuff. Some of the material I read years ago, but didn't quite get it then but am getting it now. I guess it's never too late.
That falls in place with Lincolns quote, You're as happy as you make up your mind to be.
Something I found interesting is how our society is so used to noise that people don't quiet their minds like they used too. If you look around so many seem to have a ipod shoved in their ears. I almost always have music going if not the TV or something.
I was pondering whether geniuses will still emerge in spite of this. Einstein, Edison, Newton, people like that all knew how to get quiet, empty their minds so the genius could fester in there and create.

Isnt that in the one book by Vincent Peele? And now in the book The Secret? Thats a great way to think about things. The cup has to be half full.
