Everyone has at least one person they look up to greatly. They can do the simplest things, or have done something so fantastic for you in your life to help you out. I thought it would be interesting to see who some of them are around the forum. I'll "list" mine later tonight.

John Mayer // Elton John // Idols 08 // Daughtry // Jonas Brothers // Rascal Flatts

Ok I can start this out...

My brother Tim... He was an amazing person... And he was always honest to me... And that means a lot to me... He passed away in January... Just 13 days shy of his 24th birthday... And it has been a long/lonely/sad road for me since then... And that is saying something considering I have 3 sisters and 2 other brothers... I won't go into the details of his death here, but I thought that I needed to explain a little more as to why I would pick him as my hero...

Ok, so I said I would post my list later, and it’s later so here is my list of heroes.

Let me preface this by saying, I don’t believe in having heroes (per say) because we are all human and have our faults and to look up to any one person and overlook the human factor is dangerous (IMO). That said, I believe in admiring certain qualities in people and even trying to find and put forth those same qualities within yourself. So, rather than just listing the names of my heroes, I’m also going to include what qualities I admire about them. So, here is my list (this may be long):

First and foremost, Jesus -- (no explanation needed)

My Great Grandmother – for her strength and determination
My Dad – for his strength and his ability to remain friends with his ex’s (yeah, I’m being serious about that)
My Mom -- for her compassion and her willingness to be there for her friends no matter how bad they’ve treated her

All the men and women in the armed forces/military – for the sacrifices they make for the rest of us.

Tony Stewart (I’m guessing no on is surprised that he’s on my list) -- for his perseverance, his competitiveness, for the fact that he isn’t afraid to speak his mind and most of all for his compassion and heart.

Kyle and Pattie Petty – for starting such a wonderful place as the Victory Junction Gang Camp

David Spade -- For his sense of humor and his sarcasm (yes that is a quality I admire)

Donny Hathaway – For inspiring people and making the world a better place with his music

Corrie Ten Boom -- (author of the hiding place) for her faith and her willingness to help people and not judge them and for her unparallel strength of character to forgive those who wronged her.

Gidget - (yes our very own Gidget) for being such a caring, loving, giving and just down right awesome person. Smile

Jolie – (yes our very own Jolie, too) for sharing a brain with me…no but seriously for being the incredibly smart, intelligent and beautiful person that she is. Smile

Everyone on JPLm -- for being such a great group of people that have been there for me and who inspire me in countless ways every day!

SORRY THIS GOT LONG, but it is still a shortened explanation.

I love this thread Callie. It took me a long time to even think of one person but when it hit my mind there is no else I could ever put before her.

In my family we have our own set of problems and I have seen first hand what giving into them can do. My grandmother Helen on the other hand was the strongest person I ever met and never knew it until years after her death.

She died when I was only four at just 63 years old. My mom had a real difficult time after my last sister (my mom’s fourth child) was born. My dad was never home because he was an Army officer, so my grandmother came to help out. I loved having her around. I remember I loved sliding my hands across here skin because it was so soft.

Anyway YEARS after she died my mom and I were on the subject of family. I asked her about my grandmother Helen and she asked me what I remembered of her mother.

I told her I had this one vivid memory of praying with my grandmother one night. She had this routine where she would exercise and then pray. I remembered what struck me as odd is she prayed for the forgiveness of the Japanese people. I asked my mom why she would do that and she explained.

I am Chamorro or from the island of Guam. My grandmother was born on the island back in the later 1920s. She was raised there and even had a dowry from birth. Someone she knew that her family agreed to marry her to. But then the events that lead up to World War II happened. When the Japanese took over the island the Chamorros hide as many of the woman and young girls as they could. My grandmother being so young at the time was not one of them. She watched as my great grandfather and grand uncle were tortured to death. She spent the early part of her teenaged years in a Japanese concentration camp where my great grandmother also died. By the time the Americans liberated the island most of the family were already gone.

In later years, she became everyone’s rock and the woman that held families together. I wish I could tell you more about her but it would take up so much room. Her adult years posed even more challenges in life. Not wanting to go into it all but my grandfather suffered with alcoholism. Here recently with my own illness I just found out my grandmother also had Lupus. Her life was so very tragic yet to meet her you would have never known what she lived through. She was so positive and that strong. . If I could ever be like one person, I would like to be as strong a person as she.

I love everyones people/explanations Smile

Goodness... who are my heros? This might sound pretty sad... but honestly I dont have anyone I truely look up to...
There are people like on TV I think are cool and all, but I dont look up to them cause, well I dont really know them and what all there about.
The people I do know well that I could look up to, well, they all have pretty noticable traits that I dont want to look up to. So IDK... theres no one really I truely admire in a way that they can be known as my hero. *shruggs* :/

I really don't usually use the term "heroes" or think about who my heroes are because I guess I don't really think of it that way. I admire different people for different reasons, historical people and people that I actually know.

But to name my heroes I would have to first say Jesus and then my parents. My Dad was a WWII vet and worked very hard to provide for us and sometimes worked 2 jobs so we could have a nice home plus our summer home on a lake. My mom was a stay at home mom until my youngest sister was old enough to go to school. Then she went to work at our school and worked there for 22 years. She died a year after she retired because of the asbestos in the school gave her lung cancer. It was removed shortly after her death because another long-time employee at the school also had the same fate, a cancer caused by asbestos.

Before my mom married my dad she was a Spokes-Model and did live TV commercials in the golden age of television (1950's) when commercials were live from the studio. She did some in the early years of having kids, but gave it up to take care of our home and family. She did every thing for us and never complained. Plus we had a small cattle ranch, horses, chickens, huge yard, garden, and orchard and she helped take care of all that too. I don't know how she did it all.
