I've been a lot places as a military brat and musician, but this is really a first for me. Other than passing through on I-80 I've never spent much time here.
There's a few things I've noticed about this place:
I've never seen people drink as much as they do here. Holy crap, these folks are born with hollow legs. So far I haven't seen anyone shorter than me. Not even among the women. Must be all this corn and cattle. And, these are some of the most honest people I've met.
All in all, I like it here, even if it is oppressively quiet.
Last night's show was interesting. I think everything that could have gone wrong, did. The battery in my guitar pick-up died, I broke a string on the guitar I was borrowing from the Nadas, and the second guitar I was playing wouldn't stay in tune. Plus, I could have used Ian on drums.
Despite all that the show went well, I thought. The place was packed and crowd was into the music it seemed.
The tour bus is cool, as long as I don't have to sleep on it. All i know is someone shouted "there's puke on my sheets" and there are beer splotches all over the ceiling. I can't think of a better way to say 'I'm on a rock tour' than that. I have a nice little spot on a leather couch and if I don't look up and see the mirror on the ceiling and Imagine what that mirror has seen, I stay in my happy place.
Now, we're on the way to Davenport for round two. I'll tell you all about it later.
lol Jon. Glad it was a good show despite the equipment problems. Well, if the crowd was drinking a lot they probably didn't notice.

Glad your show went well despite all the curveballs.

Egad. Thanks a bunch Jon. Now *I* have to go to my Happy Place. toodles.
LOL!!! I think its funny that everyone was taller than him... I guess I can't say I'm surprised, cuz when I went out west everyone out there was short... So maybe it is the country livin'
Its a good thing he wasn't here in the summer time when the corn was still up... It would have towered over him too... Cuz well the corn, is like taller than most people anymore... When I was a kid it was like four feet at the most and now it gets to be like six/seven sometimes nine feet tall...
And when I saw it was Meat Loaf's old bus, the first thing to pop into my head was the song Paradise By The Dashboard Lights.... I like his music...
I'm glad you had a crowd who appreciated the music. And there is nothin' wrong with quiet, the better to write new songs! Quiet is also great for thinking deep thoughts.
I'd try to hire a maid to come in and give the bus a good scrubbing, especially that couch you are on. Steer clear of any vomit and other grossness you may encounter.
And for those of you who are curious, as I was, about the evil guitar pick-up, you can see this innocent looking criminal on Amazon. You may have seen the small hole in the bottom of Jon's guitar. This wicked pick-up thing plugs in there and allows Jon to connect an acoustic guitar to an amp, from what I can tell. But if I have this wrong, someone please set me straight.
**************************** California Christmas this year.
All I can think about when I hear Iowa is the song from The Music Man. "So what the heck, you're welcome, glad to have you with us. Would you like to give Iowa a try?"
