I've gotten some requests to elaborate a little on idol camp, so here it goes:
If there were to be a summary of what it was like... the best I can say was that it was an Arts Camp. There were a bunch of classes to choose from like Set Design, film making, singing etc and it was definitely camp. Think cafeteria food, campfires and mosquitoes.
An average day started at 7:45 with a morning stretch and was followed by breakfast and a couple of classes. At 12:30 we had lunch then immediately after was Open Mic. That was for kids to get a chance to display whatever talent they felt like expressing. Another class, some free time and a couple of rest periods preceded dinner at 6:00 and around 7:15 there was a performance of some kind by a special guest. Lights went out shortly after the show and the day started again at 7:45 the next day.
I'd say my favorite part about it was the opportunity for the kids to accomplish something. At the end of the week a performance was held for all the parents of what the kids had been working on all week. It was nice to see the journey that they had taken all week and display the things they had learned.
I was really glad to be involved and I'll certainly be going back next year.
Sounds like a great experience for the kids. Glad to hear you'll go back next year.
