Beth sang Masibulele Ku Jesu (a beautiful Zulu hymn) on her recent If Love Could Say God's Name concert DVD and it is a magnificent and catchy song, and while I haven't yet learned the words fully, the melody is often floating through my mind and soul. I can't wait to hear it on the CD! I was actually hoping Beth would include this song on the CD!
I thought it would be wonderful enough to share with all my fellow friends.
My copy of Beth Nielsen Chapman's new CD Prism: The Human Family Songbook arrived in the mail today and while I've not yet had a chance to listen to it, I have read the liner notes, and I just wanted to share the beautiful messages that Beth has shared with fans.
Archbishop Desmond Tutu aided Beth in the shaping of the album, and one common theme of the songs, chosen from so many various cultures and faiths (and some originals composed by Beth herself) is that "We are the Rainbow Children of God".
I love that symbolism, which Beth explains as follows: "Every hue in the spectrum is borne through one point of clear colourless light...that's how I believe Spirit to be...playful and strong...endlessly unfolding in its celebration of diversity...blue is not truer than red or yellow...and all the colours in between...across all cultures there is a common tone inherent in the sound of the human voice singing in devotion. Deeply rooted at the core of every tradition the vowels, like primary colours, carry the tonal absolute into a million variations".
Isn't that beautiful. I wish everyone followed this ideology, and it is very inspiring to me. I'd like to be a better person and do more good for the world.
I love the beginning of the song If Love Could Say God's Name:
"If love could say God's name We'd hear a trillion sounds Choirs from the balconies Grass grow through the ground
The sound would ring so true As every fist uncurled One human family All across the world..."
