Hey Guys Smile

How many times have you come across two (or more) of your favourite artists in your CD collection or iPod who perform the same songs, whether one had written the song and it was later covered by the other artist, or whether someone else entirely had written the song and both versions were covers? I always love how different artists can bring their own unique spirit and essence to a song, and when two performers perform the same song, it's always cool to compare them (both favourably of course). Smile

Here are some of my favourite "same song, different performer" moments: Smile

SONG (SONGWRITER):

- PERFORMER (ALBUM)

"Who Knows Where The Time Goes?" (Sandy Denny):

- Susan Cowsill ("Just Believe It")

- Susanna Hoffs & Matthew Sweet ("Under The Covers")

"I Want To See The Bright Lights Tonight" (Sandy Denny):

- Susan Cowsill & The Continental Drifters ("Listen Listen")

- Siobhan Maher-Kennedy ("Immigrant Flower")

"Should I Let You In?" (Charlotte Caffey):

- Belinda Carlisle ("Heaven On Earth")

- Meredith Brooks & The Graces ("Perfect View")

"Lay Down Your Arms" (Charlotte Caffey):

- Charlotte Caffey & The Graces ("Perfect View")

- Belinda Carlisle ("Real")

"The Rain Song" (Vicki Peterson & Susan Cowsill):

- Susan Cowsill & The Continental Drifters ("Vermillion")

- Vicki Peterson & The Bangles ("Doll Revolution")

"Our Lips Are Sealed" (Jane Wiedlin):

- Belinda Carlisle & The Go-Go's ("Beauty And The Beat")

- Jane Wiedlin ("The Very Best Of Jane Wiedlin") (*acoustic version)

"Can't Stop The World" (Kathy Valentine):

- Kathy Valentine & The Textones ("Through The Canyon")

- Belinda Carlisle & The Go-Go's ("Beauty And The Beat")

*I'll come up with more as I think of them! Smile

Cheers, Mikey Smile

Hey Sheepgirl Smile

The actual song title is Heaven Is A Place On Earth from the album titled Heaven On Earth. Many people get confused with the similarity in the titles. Wink

One of Belinda's songs - Should I Let You In - was covered by Meredith Brooks when she was a member of The Graces along with Gia Ciambotti and Charlotte Caffey (who is also a member of Belinda's band The Go-Go's). Smile

On her album Real, Belinda herself later covered another Graces song - Lay Down Your Arms - which was sung by Charlotte. Smile

Another interesting link between these albums is that Belinda co-wrote (but didn't perform any vocals on) Out In The Fields for The Graces. Smile

Here are cover photos and track listings for those three albums if you're interested: Smile

Heaven On Earth - Belinda Carlisle:

1. Heaven Is A Place On Earth
2. Circle In The Sand
3. I Feel Free
4. Should I Let You In
5. World Without You
6. I Get Weak
7. We Can Change
8. Fool For Love
9. Nobody Owns Me
10. Love Never Dies

Perfect View - The Graces:

*All three band members sing vocals on various songs.

1. Lay Down Your Arms (Vocals: Charlotte Caffey)
2. When The Sun Goes Down (Vocals: Gia Ciambotti)
3. Perfect View (Vocals: Charlotte)
4. Fear No Love (Vocals: Meredith Brooks)
5. Time Waits For No One (Vocals: Charlotte)
6. 50,000 Candles Burning (Vocals: Gia & Meredith)
7. Should I Let You In (Vocals: Meredith)
8. We Never Met (Vocals: Gia)
9. Tomorrow (Vocals: Gia, Meredith & Charlotte)
10. Out In The Fields (Vocals: Charlotte, Meredith & Gia - Co-Writer: Belinda Carlisle)

Real - Belinda Carlisle:

1. Goodbye Day
2. Big Scary Animal
3. Too Much Water
4. Lay Down Your Arms
5. Where Love Hides
6. One With You
7. Wrap My Arms
8. Tell Me
9. Windows Of The World
10. Here Comes My Baby

*Some of the songs on Perfect View and Real, mostly written by Charlotte Caffey, were co-written with Ralph Schuckett who was a composer for the music in the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series. Belinda also co-wrote most of the songs on Real and the one song on Perfect View. Smile

Cheers, Mikey Smile
