New disc "The Information". Any comments from those who have heard it? I just got it and it's like techno/folk/rap...lol...or something. Lots of atmosphere. I dig song #2 "I Think I'm in Love (though it makes me kinda nervous to say so)" & song #3 "Cellphone's Dead".

I heard it was like "Sea Change"...nope, though some of it sounds mournful. It's not "Guero" for sure. It's just Beck doing something cool down at the studio again.

Oh, and the stickers are cool. Wink I love buying his stuff just for the marketing packages.

10000BPM is good. I am also rather enjoying "The Horrible Fanfare/Landslide/Exoskeleton".

I love how prolific Beck is...Guero only came out about a year or so ago, right?

oh, right...lol. and, man, i was tipped off that da Beck was on SNL last night. he was incredible. i was cheering and jumping around by the end of it. beck finally conquered TV! he's always looked miserably uncomfortable to me up there, but i think he finally created enough of a spectacle that he was able to relax a little...lol. he had crazy dancing guy with him, of course, when he sang "nausea" and then for "clap hands" they did an amazing version of a bit i have seen them do live, where the band plays a dinner table and all the items on it. on stage, they actually eat a small meal while Beck does a solo thing, then they play the leftover items...hahah. it really sounds cool, too...isn't just silliness.

he also had a large puppet show version of he and the band that played and danced along with him to the side of the stage. it was strangely awesome...hahahha.

I am hoping he'll tour, but it is hard to say...he's toured a lot around here lately so I guess I'll just have to stay alert.

A few years ago, when Petra Haden was injured in a car accident while crossing a street, she didn't have medical insurance at the time, so a whole lot of well-known, loved, and well-respected artists got together to perform a benefit to raise money for Petra. Smile

Among the musicians were: Smile

Anna Waronker
Beck
Jack Black
Matthew Sweet
Charlotte Caffey
Jane Wiedlin
Kathy Valentine
Gina Schock

I always thought it was really cool how all these musicians got together to help one of their own. Belinda Carlisle couldn't make it, she was on a solo tour, so Anna filled in for her in The Go-Go's, and The Bangles were also on tour at the time, but everyone else had a blast and did a good deed, which is heartwarming. Smile

Interestingly enough, Abby Travis (who is affiliated with both The Go-Go's and The Bangles) has also worked with Beck. She was also unavailable for the benefit, but it's cool to have all these musical links between people. Smile

Cheers, Mikey Smile

"Play" as in they would use forks, glasses, plates, food, salt and pepper shakers and the table and chairs to play a rythym...and like 4-5 people were doing it simultaneously, creating quite pleasing music Smile

Ha...hard to say. I'm not sure what your favorite flavor of Beck is. Smile Wahoo thought the tunes she sampled sounded "pretty out there", but I find this one to be pretty subtle in comparison to many of his other works.

How do you play mashed pototoes? I could maybe understand playing....ummmm.....let's go with.....chicken bones, but most food isn't very playable, is it?? Guess I have never tried to play my food. Sounds like an awesome family home evening activity!!!!!

And Mikey, which one is Beck? I have seen photos of him, but can't be sure which one is him in that photo. It is very sweet of them all to raise money like that.

I must confess that I've not actually seen photos of Beck, but I do know that Charlotte Caffey is on the far left of the photo on lead guitar, and that Anna Waronker is next to her with a tambourine. There are two guys next to Anna, and Gina Schock is behind them on drums. Then we have Kathy Valentine on bass and the guy next to her is Matthew Sweet (I know this because I've seen photos of him in the liner notes of the Under The Covers CD he did with Susanna Hoffs from The Bangles). Next to Matthew is Jane Wiedlin on rhythm guitar. Smile

Therefore, by process of elimination, the two guys next to Anna are Beck and Jack Black, and I'm not sure which is which. I'm guessing Beck is the guy with long blonde hair. Am I right, Mish? Smile

Cheers, Mikey Smile

Beck has shoulder-length blonde hair, and is next to the gal with the tamborine. For additional information...see below:

Also of note...all my fav artists love to get photographed in the tub. Though, Beck seems to prefer the narrow but deep oriental tubs...

I was right! LOL

See! I'm a detective! I have ESP! LOL

I like this photo of Jon in the tub! LOL

These guys must save a fortune on laundry - they economise and wash their clothes while they're still wearing them! That is genius! LOL

Beck kind of looks like he's been shrunk and is bathing in the kitchen sink! Surprise

Cheers, Mikey Smile

BTW...one of my favorite flavors of Beck has always been "harmonica Beck". "Cellophane Beck" is good too, though Wink
