Ok as most of you know I live for music!!!! Honestly, I don't think I could live without music.. So I decided that I would make a thread for me to share my insights on some bands/musicians/composers with all of you... Each individual/group will have their own post and feel free to comment on any of them (if you have never heard of them I will be listing some songs that are a must to hear).. This thread I will maintain and add to whenever I feel like it, so I hope you all keep coming back to look and comment... There will be fun facts posted in here which may in the future come in handy for some of you Wink

Yes, I could just write a blog and put this in there.. (Which hey I just might do that as well), but I thought this would be more fun... As I can prolly get more input here than on my blog...

Now the question is... Who to start with... I mean I could start with someone you have all heard of... But what would the fun in that be???? But there was one band in my mind when I decided to start this thread.. And so they will be the first one to be presented to you... So without farther ado... I present to you.... The Traveling Wilburys

Who are The Traveling Wilburys?

Well if you look at Vol. 1 it tells you that the Traveling Wilburys are:

Nelson Wilbury
Otis Wilbury
Lucky Wilbury
Charlie T. Wilbury Jr.
Lefty Wilbury

Now if you look at Vol 3. it tells you that the Traveling Wilburys are:

Spike Wilbury
Clayton Wilbury
Boo Wilbury
Muddy Wilbury

And Vol. 3 is dedicated to Lefty Wilbury, who passed away right after Vol. 1 was completed..

Now there are only two albums that they released... So why did they skip Vol. 2.. No one really knows but there are many theories...

Ok so now that I have you confused I will reveal who is behind the pseudonyms Wink

Nelson/Spike Wilbury is none other than the one the only.. Mr. George Harrison

Otis/Clayton Wilbury is one of the best producers in the music industry and one of the original artist to form a 'one man band' (being the only member of the band to not change.. as he choose to work with session musicans).. Mr. Jeff Lynne

Lucky/Boo Wilbury is by far the greatest songwriter... Mr. Bob Dylan

Charlie T. Jr/Muddy Wilbury is one of the best American Songwriters and Musicians.. Mr. Tom Petty

Lefty Wilbury is the man who will prolly be forever remembered as having the best voice in 'pop' music... Mr. Roy Orbison

I hope that most of those names sound familiar to everyone...

Anyway.. How it all began...

George was in need of a B-Side to a single off of his Cloud Nine album... So he called up Jeff to see if he was available to help him out.. Jeff was at that time working with Roy. Jeff, George and Roy ended up having lunch together a few days later to discuss Jeff's time and when he was going to work with each of them.. While at lunch George was impressed to learn that Roy was a fan of Monty Python (George being like their biggest fan)... So while George and Jeff were discussing George's project, Roy decided that he would like to help, so they decided to have a recording session the next day.. Well they didn't feel that they needed to rent out a studio, so George called up Bob, who had a small studio in his garage... So the next day George had to go over to Tom's house to get his guitar and Tom decided that he would go along to see if he could help out with anything..

While in the middle of composing the song, George got a bit of writer's block... So he said to Bob "Give us some lyrics, you famous lyricist" (I love that quote).. So Bob asked him "What is the song about" and then George looked up and saw a box that said "HANDLE WITH CARE" on it... And within minutes they had a song.. When it came time to record, the song was going to be just George with Roy on the Bridge.. But George didn't want to record the song without Jeff, Tom and Bob... So all five recorded the song and left for the day...

George took the song to his producers who told him that the song was too good to be a B-Side.. So George called up the boys and asked them how they would feel about doing a full album.. They all agreed and managed to write an entire album in less than six months...

A few months after the album was finished Roy passed away... The remaining members released a follow up album, but called it Vol. 3... And the rest as the say is History Wink

Songs that I recommend:

Handle With Care
Rattled
Not Alone Anymore (Roy Orbison is at his best vocally on this one)
Heading For The Light
Tweeter And The Monkey Man (Bob Dylan at his best Wink)
Dirty World
Last Night
Congratulations (Another great Dylan vocal)
End Of The Line (Tom Petty is AMAZING on this one)
New Blue Moon
Inside Out (Pretty much a duet of Bob and Tom)
Like A Ship

Anyway.. I hope that you will all give them a listen and then come me feed back Wink

I've actually never heard of the Traveling Wilburys... interesting about the no Vol. 2, though.

Do a post on Paul McCartney. It IS his birthday you know. Tongue

Jolie, I'm right there with you when it come to music. I know I can't live without it, there is no uncertainty. LOL

Actually, I'm on a high about Fall Out Boy right now. And not because of the ever-popular, always in the news bassist Pete Wentz. Their lead singer Patrick Stump fascinates me. He's so different from most of the people you see nowadays. He's a musician, not a attention-whore. To quote Patrick: "I get really annoyed with photo shoots and interviews and handshakes. I'm a musician; God forbid I actually have time to make music."

He's so into his music and that's how it should be. I way respect him for being that involved in his music. To quote Paris Hilton: "That's hot." Wink

I love a musician who is more into their music than selling their social life.. Which is part of the reason I applaud Sir. James Paul McCartney for not going on AI... He didn't need to go on there to sell his album.. In fact most of his fans would have been shocked to see him on there... Honestly..

Anyway I'm about to make my next post in this thread sometime tonight... For my next 'feature'... But you will have to wait to see what it is...

That's a very good way to raise money. There's nothing people love more than music. And staged outrageous reality TV shows. Wink

I can't stand stuff like that though. We have missionaries in our church who have witnessed some of this stuff first hand and their stories are absolutely unreal when you've lived in the good ol' Bible Belt all your life. You just don't understand how lucky you are. That's why it PISSES ME OFF when people complain about people complain ABOUT SOMETHING stupid like "I didn't get the new PS3" or "My parents didn't get me that TV." I mean, there are kids your age who are parentless, live in disease ridden hovels, have been raped, and YOU are complaining about not having a damn TV?

Now, I totally understand people complaining about something substantial, like being very sick, in pain, and being hasseled by annoying people. I'm totally with you. But always remember to count your blessings, it could always be worse. Trust me.

*Gets of soapbox* Anyways, back to music...

I like Green Day, they've always appealed to me. Plus I think Billie Joe is sexy. Guyliner babe.... Wink But I like their music too, they've never been afraid to say what they think. However I do think there is a line, i.e: Dixie Chicks.

I agree with you Punky... This album that I chose to feature this time around... Was put together by Bono and Yoko Ono... Honestly people need to get over the fact that John Lennon fell in love with her and that she didn't get along with Paul, I mean the Beatles were going to break up that year anyway... Its not like she broke them up, they had been fighting before she came along... And love her or hate her, you have to admit that woman does a lot to help out the world...

Oh and I'm ordering the $35 copy with the 4 extra songs on it from cduniverse (it has to be imported from Britain Tongue)

Did you go and listen to the clips?

LOL, I'm actually listening to Breaking Benjamin on Yahoo Music right now, Breath. I like it, but I've always favored a strong chorus and bridge. I love a song that pulls you in and lets you lose yourself for awhile. That's what sometimes gets me through the day. Like when I've had a stressful day at school, music helps me.

I would buy the CD, but....Alas, the woes of having no money. I'm broke.

That's cool Sara... Really I am gonna do one on that album.. Just not now Wink

But in the meantime.. I thought you would all like to know that I am totally in love with this song (here are the lyrics):

All I want is the truth
Just give me some truth

All I want is the truth
Just give me some truth

I'm sick and tired of hearing
Things
From uptight-short sighted-
Narrow minded hypocritics

All I want is the truth
Just give me some truth

I've had enough of reading
Things
Of nuerotic-pyschotic-
Pig headed politicians

All I want is the truth
Just give me some truth

No short haired-yellow bellied
Son of tricky dicky
Is gonna mother hubbard
Soft soap me
With just a pocketful of hope
Money for dope
Money for rope

-guitar solo-

No short haired-yellow bellied
Son of tricky dicky
Is gonna mother hubbard
Soft soap me
With just a pocketful of hope
Money for dope
Money for rope

I'm sick to death of seeing
Things
From tight lipped-
Condescending-mommies little Chauvinists

All I want is the truth
Just give me some truth

I've had enough of watching
Scenes
Of schizophrenic-ego-centric-
Paranoic-prima-donnas

All I want is the truth
Just give me some truth

No short haired-yellow bellied
Son of tricky dicky
Is gonna mother hubbard
Soft soap me
With just a pocketful of hope
Money for dope
Money for rope

I've had enough of reading
Things
Of nuerotic-pyschotic-
Pig headed politicians

All I want is the truth
Just give me some truth

All I want is the truth
Just give me some truth

All I want is the truth
Just give me some truth

All I want is the truth
Just give me some truth

All I want is the truth
Just give me some truth
