May I introduce to you Tom Fischer, the man who has done 2 podcasts with Jon and also coordinated a live chat with Jon at his site www.liveoneradio.com. Tom has joined jplewismusic and has graciously agreed to answer any questions everyone may have for him. Thank you very much Tom for bringing us these interviews and the chat with Jon.
Tom Fischer created LiveOneRadio as a natural extension of his podcast radio show Tripodder.com where regional and global issues are united in one place along with music. Tom is a voice-over artist, on-camera personality, and public relations specialist. He has appeared in Sports Illustrated, FHM, Car and Driver, and other nationwide magazines. His other professional experiences have ranged from teaching in Oxford England to working with Dawn Wells, the original "Mary Ann" from Gilligan's Island on her SpudfEst Film & Music Festial and institute. In fact, Tom first met Jon Peter Lewis while working on the SpudFest this past summer. In addition to being an on-air personality for Live One Radio, Tom is currently a DJ for WIKY 104.1 FM in Evansville, Indiana. For more information on Tom Fischer, visit www.STomFischer.com. In Oxford, I taught business studies at a college. And I have never completely left it in my heart. I also did some radio projects there. I travel back to England on occasion and also cover stories internationally on my Tripodder.com podcast radio show. This past July when the bombings happened in London, I was one of the first journalists in my region to have a live interview with a Londoner just down the road from it. Glad to hear you love Oxford too!
That's really cool. Original journalism is fascinating; like most things it's much more complicated than it looks from the outside. Did you teach journalism?
I've only stayed in London once, but it immediately struck me as a place in which I'd be comfortable living. That's unusual for me... I like to travel but I usually want to come home.
Thank you so much for the interview and live chat with Jon yesterday. It was a lot of fun.
Your background is very impressive. In regards to this past July when the bombings occurred in London, that must have been very intense.
Thank you for joining the site. I look forward to hearing more from you!

Thanks for the interview and chat with Jon! I've dropped by LiveOneRadio a couple times, and enjoyed it. How do you select artists for your show...do bands send you samples and requests to be on your rotation, or is there another process? It seems I've heard mostly singer/songwriter types on there, is that the format or just an accident of when I've been dropping in? Were you familiar with Jon prior to Spudfest? I assume you saw Jon perform there...what was your opinion of the show he put on in Driggs? Have I bombarded you with enough questions yet? lol.

Thank you all for kind words and for checking out LiveOneRadio.com! Your encouragement means a lot to me. We will continue to have the JPL interview up on Tripodder.com for you to stream and download. Just go to the little mp3 player on the site.
To answer your questions...
At LiveOneRadio.com , we allow all artists to submit their material. Our primary focus was originally bands from the Mid-west. Because we are receiving such positive feedback, we have opened that up to all independent artists. If we like their stuff, we put it in the same mix as mainstream artists that we all know and love. We give everyone a chance. Our motto is "real life...real people...real music." By allowing artists to come in and chat with listeners & DJs as JPL did last night, we unite everyone. Furthering the spirit of "realness" in all of us is what we are all about. If you know any bands that would like to be considered, have them e-mail me at tom@liveoneradio.com . Thanks!
We will of course continue to play JPL's latest tunes. I knew a bit about Jon before I met him at the SpudFest. I actually had the honour of introducing he and his band for the show! His show in Driggs was brilliant! And then I became a fan
With regard to Oxford, I mainly taught business studies and marketing.
If you all are on myspace, I welcome you to add me at myspace.com/tomfischer . You are wonderful group of people. JPL is very lucky to have you as fans. And I am most grateful to be spotlighted on your forum. Thank you for your interest!
Any more questions, please keep on asking!
All the best, Tom Fischer LiveOneRadio.com Tripodder.com
Welcome to JPL Forums from me too! It's always nice to get to know fellow JPL fans, especially when they are as nice and warm as you are. Thanks for joining and for giving us the opportunity to ask questions in media related areas. I'm a University Postgraduate student in English and Creative Writing, so I'm interested in learning all about media related careers in the future, so I hope you won't mind my asking you questions in that area.
I would like to ask you something personal if you don't mind, if you could help me.
As part of my University studies and career, I've been called upon lately to participate in public speaking events like video conferences and seminars with professionals and groups from international universities and such.
The trouble is, I am one of the chronically shy types who finds public performances gruelling at best. Although I have a passion for my work, and I love people deep down, when it comes to actually talking out loud, I get so nervous and anxious I can't perform.
As a performer yourself, who has experience in public speaking and theatre (I've just checked out your website) would you be able to offer any advice to overcoming these problems?
I want to be a successful academic, writer, and possibly even teacher someday, but my nerves get the best of me, so I was hoping a professional like yourself could give me some advice. One of my main career interests is in writing academically about music and music reviewing although I am a huge fantasy-science fiction buff as well.
Thank you everyone for your posts, adding me to myspace, and your messages! You are an awesome group of people
MIKEY and anyone else who might need advice on this.... Even after speaking in front of large groups of people, I still become nervous at times. And a little nervous is health and natural. When I am on the radio AND not looking at the thousands of people listening, it may be a bit easier because I often forget how many people are listening. However, when it comes to large crowds of people, I realize that there is more pressure. Especially if being analyzed by someone giving you a grade in a course
The best advice I can give is.....
1. Understand that a majority of the audience who you'll be speaking to would be just as nervous (if not more nervous) than you if they were in your spot! 2. Rehearse/practice your presentation with friends until you know it very well obviously. But on your big day, if you make a mistake or get lost what you are doing, usually no one will ever know. No matter what we are doing, many times we assume that people see our imperfections and mistakes, but most of the time they don't! I've always been told in acting, "If you mess up, don't apologize, just move on." The same is the case here. 3. Like anything , the more you practice the easier it comes. So look at every opportunity to when you're with your friends, in groups of people or larger crowds as a chance to tell them about what you know in conservation. Because when it comes to presenting, keeping your delivery as conversational as possible and relating to them as your friends always makes it more enjoyable!
And Mikey, as you said you have a passion for what you do...never forget the ability you have with your presentation to inspire others to begin have that same passion you do! Think back to those that fostered your passion and put the fire in your heart. Let that spirit guide you.
I hope this has helped you! Any further questions, feel free to post or e-mail me on stomfischer@gmail.com (I check that one most frequently!)
Thanks Tom for your very kind and thoughtful advice. I am so glad to have come to know you and I would like to think of you as a good and real friend, so I am deeply touched and grateful for your having helped me. I will listen to what you say and try my best to apply your wisdom to any future public speaking endeavours.
Tom, you sure have done many things in your short life. I watched your videos on www.STomFishcer.com, and quite enjoyed them. So I have some questions for you. What were you doing in those nationwide magazines? And what are your career goals? What would you like to see yourself doing in 5 years? And can we help you in any way? Many people who read this forum have connections of various kinds, so if you tell us what you are interested in doing, maybe someone out there can lend a hand. Are you looking for other celebrities to interview or other news stories to cover with your podcasts?
Thanks for your enthusiasm for Jon and for answering questions here.
