I went to the Neil Young concert last night and it was incredible! He played 2 sets.. the first one was an acoustic set with just him. He had 5 different guitars that he played at different times sometimes while he played the harmonica (like when he sang, "Heart of Gold"). He played a banjo on one song and a couple times he put down his guitar and played piano and keyboard. Then there was an intermission and he played another hour with his full band.
For a 61 year old, he sure put on a great show, and it was sold out. He is an icon and one of my all time favorites. I was thrilled to see him live for the first time.
During the set with his band, there was an artist that painting pictures on stage for each song and he wrote the name of the song on the paintings and then put them up on an easel just in time for the song he was painting to start. So the paintings he was doing were for songs that were not played yet but he finished them and put them up just in time. It was really cool.
Some vintage Neil from 1971 .. he still sounds the same!:
